The Reincarnation of Laura Ingalls Wilder Is Alive And Well And Living Among Us And I Say Let’s Hear Her Out

laura ingallsPut on your best dress of sprigged green, pull out some maple candy, and come make yourself at home in the dugout. The Center for Reincarnation Studies has found the re-bodied soul of Laura Ingalls Wilder, author of the Little House on the Prairie Series.

“Although the present incarnation of Laura Ingalls Wilder agreed to The Center for Reincarnation Studies using her photograph, she does not want her name revealed. This is her story.”

My mom and I were the only ones at the site of the Ingalls’ family dugout house (described in On the Banks of Plum Creek), or at least if there were others there, I sure don’t remember them. We went from the parking area and crossed the creek to the dugout site. I remember nothing of my mom after that point. I stood in front of the dugout site, reading the sign, and then I just started to walk along the creek banks. I don’t remember where I went, I don’t remember what I saw. The whole thing is a blur now. It was as if someone else was directing me. My mom said later that it was as if I was having a religious experience…

I read all of the books again, and when I ran out of Laura’s own books, I started on the biographies again. It was then that I started seeing the parallels between our lives, but suddenly, one night, looking at a photo of Laura in her late teens, I noticed that we looked alike. I took a photo of myself from around the same age, and put the two photos side-by-side. It completely threw me.

“Her reasoning seems specious,” I hear you say. “That doesn’t seem like much in the way of evidence,” another one of you chimes in. “It sounds like this lady is maybe just a fan of Laura Ingalls Wilder instead of her actual eternal essence tamped into a fresh skin receptacle,” a third adds. “Why don’t Americans ever claim to be the reincarnation of someone who isn’t famous?” These are perfectly sound questions. Let Laura Ingalls Wilder the Sequel put them all to rest.

“Laura was born February 7, 1867. My oldest daughter was born February 6. She died on February 10, 1957. Throughout my pregnancy I told everyone that my daughter would be born on February 10.”

I’m not quite sure what’s going on here, but I’m excited, and she’s got a lot of numbers ready, and that’s a good sign; she’s clearly done some kind of research and honestly it’s the effort that counts.

Almanzo died October 23, 1949. My “half” birthday is October 24. I realize this sounds like a stretch, but for some reason I’ve always had a connection to that date, so to me it makes sense.

Hey. Hey. Laura Ingalls Wilder Part II, don’t be so hard on yourself. We are here for you, and for your story, and we will stretch as far as you need us to.

Laura and Almanzo were married on August 25, 1885. One of my best friends was born August 25, 1975. Her name is Laura.

Her middle name is “I, INGALLS, I WILL RETURN FROM DEAD, I WILL UNDEFEAT GRAVE, I WILL AUGUST AGAIN.” How can you deny that?

Laura’s daughter Rose, was born on December 5, 1886. My husband’s birthday is December 4th.

THAT’S REALLY CLOSE AND ALSO I WANT TO BELIEVE HER.

Caroline Ingalls died on April 20, 1924. I was born April 24th.

Another thing is that wherever I go, the eyes of the characters on the cover of On the Banks of Plum Creek follow me. They chant “Mother, save us.”

Carrie Ingalls died in 1946, a few months after my mother was born.

This is…it’s adding up, and it’s going to add up to something, I know it.

Laura’s unnamed son was born in August, although the date is unknown. My first son was born in August, as well.

BECAUSE SHE’S LAURA INGALLS WILDER.

Other weird coincidences: I was reading a Laura biography a few years ago. The day that I read about Pa’s death was June 8th. Pa died on June 8, 1902.

Laura and Almanzo’s first home together burned down. I have been terrified of fire my entire life, and the first house that my husband and I lived in together burned down.

Does she have to draw you a picture? She doesn’t like firebecause she’s Laura Ingalls Wilder.

Laura’s parents were Charles and Caroline. My in-laws are Charles and Carol.

It’s done. Do you hear me? It’s done. It is finished. She’s Laura Ingalls Wilder, and frankly I wouldn’t be surprised if her in-laws were the reincarnation of Laura’s parents themselves. Is her entire family the Wilders revisited? Yes. The dates don’t lie. She’s read all of the books. She wrote them, too, in another life.

Well, this is definitely unassailable evidence of reincarnation and not just massive coincidences. I, for one, am convinced this woman is Laura Ingalls Wilder. I can’t wait for the new book.

    1. anninyn +23

(I quite enjoy that a lot of the evidence for all the reincarnations on the site is a physical resemblance and a vague similarity in life events)

    2. formergr +9

I think we can’t even say they are massive coincidences…more like barely coincidences!

    1. RoseCamelia +4

Doesn’t all belief require volition? We all believe what we want to believe.

  2. onehandedhighfive +105

I for one, applaud reincarnation for working on a “plus or minus a few days” approach to renewal. It’s good to be flexible.

    1. anon210 +23

Yeah, it seems like the only one she actually hits is the daughter’s birthday/husband’s birthday, which… what does is that even supposed to mean? Other than that, a lot of not-so-near misses.

Maybe the Ingalls used the Julian Calendar.

      1. extermikate +68

Probably the astral plane is a lot like a big customs department and it takes varying amounts of time for the soul to clear it and get back through to this plane, depending on whether or not the astral customs officials are dicks or not, and also whether or not the soul is trying to pass through during peak travel times.

    2. rustyspatula +27

Honestly, who are we to say that our calendar is the authoritative one under which the universe operates? Add or subtract a couple leap days in there somewhere, and I’m sure it all adds out correctly in the Ledger of the Bureau of Reincarnation Placements.

    3. malloryelis +60

think of it as like when you’re booking flights online, and it asks if you want to do a +/- 3 days, to save on expenses!

      1. onehandedhighfive +18

“if you’re flexible about your birthday, you can avoid all the diseases she had!”

    4. Goatse Fanfiction +20

That the dates don’t really have much of anything in common only proves it. I mean, why would you go and do the exact same things the exact same way twice? Laura Ingalls Wilder is a little more adventurous than that.

  3. johannespunkt +154

No, this doesn’t add up at all. The dates are too neat. The numbers are too close. It’s almost conspiratorial. I think you are looking at this in entirely the wrong direction. No, hear me out.

Time moves backwards. This woman is actually /causing/ Laura Ingalls Wilder with her obsession, not realizing that’s why the dates add up so neatly. I hear you say, That makes no sense. But consider this: if you are heading in one direction mind-numbingly fast, which way do you look? Forward, or backward? The traditional model of time and re-incarnation suggest that we are looking backward, which makes no sense to me, pal.

No, this is actually a simple case of cause and effect. She obsesses about the dates, and so the dates happen. She is afraid of the fire because her life, in our traditional model of time, ends with a great all-consuming fire, and she just happens to vaguely “re”-member that. This case is a case of pre-incarnation, Mallory, and you know it.

It would appear that the Laura Ingalls Wilder content has been taken off of that blog. Something’s fishy here…

    1. dakimel +20

Wait, are you saying that the reincarnation reverse invented the internet?????

      1. CordeliaFitz +3

It’s certainly plausible. I mean, we’ve already seen how many crazy implications time travel has. It would follow that reincarnation has at least as many.

  5. Frumiosa +13

That whole website is amaaazing. A sheer treasure trove of batshittery!

  6. medievaltights +68

I can’t explain how I know this, but I’m pretty sure this so-called Laura Ingalls Wilder is really a Ronbledore denier trying to smear Mallory’s good name.

  7. Miss Jane +17

It’s hard for me to describe how devastated I am that the page got taken down before I saw it.

  8. lobsterhug +54

One year at Girl Scout camp I bunked with a girl who claimed to be the reincarnation of Laura and I was so jealous because I wanted to be her reincarnation. But I accepted this other girl’s asseration even though it broke my heart because she looked the part in a way I didn’t with her braids and her tan and her palpable pioneer spirit.

  9. DunaVelo +7

Noooo it looks like they’ve deleted it already? Link goes to ‘content not found.’ SAD FACE

  10. alex_geedee +45

I don’t know how I feel about reincarnation, but I do believe this lady could be a TIME TRAVELLING LAURA INGALLS WILDER! But wait, would that also mean she’s gay? There are so many rules…

  11. Linette +24

All this time I’ve been claiming to the be reincarnation of Cleopatra and completely missing the part where I could’ve been a pioneer girl reincarnate. DIBS ON CADDIE WOODLAWN.

  12. Sean_Sullivan +61

How funny! I’m the reincarnation of Rose Wilder Lane, Laura Ingalls’ daughter.

Let me just mention, by the way, that I’m super, super, super sorry for inventing Libertarianism. That was a pretty massive fuck-up there. Hoo boy.

  13. tubatoothpaste +40

Seriously though, can’t you just, like LARP as Laura Ingalls instead of invoking a spiritual concept that you clearly don’t understand?

  14. lizardjellybean +47

The rest of us LOVE fire, as we are not Laura Ingalls Wilder Returned.

  15. SugarAndSnails +25

One of my closest friends in high school suspected that she’d been some random non-famous person who died horribly in the Inquisition, because when she’d read about the Inquisition it had sounded really, really, really, really, really bad to her, and sometimes she had dreams about being tortured to death. So like the fire thing, but with a non-famous person!

    1. MilesofMountain +37

I had a friend in university who thought she’d been someone who died when she was stabbed while on the toilet, since every time she sat on the toilet she worried someone was going to come in and stab her to death. So, you know, there’s that.

    2. tragicallyludicrous +9

I went through a period in high school where I was convinced that my past life was a British person who was really into glam and new wave because I was really into glam and new wave and also a serious Anglophile. I was born in 1985, it could be…

  16. safvn +6

On the Banks of Plum Motherfucking Creek. That book.

The evidence is irrefutable. There are conspiracies everywhere.

  17. Goatse Fanfiction +14

And why only famous dead people? Is there some rule that souls travel linearly? Isn’t heaven supposed to be outside of mortal time or something? Think how much more interesting it would be to have a conversation with your reincarnated famous self. I’m your biggest fan, cute one from One Direction, in fact you could even say *stage whisper* I am you!

    1. L_Bear +4

Oh my god I was so excited about this but the blog has been removed. I guess I will just have to travel backwards in time to find out what it was like the first time round now.

  18. ToTheIsLand +7

The “crazy old Maurice” tag is part of what makes this extra-delightful for me.

  19. Fnordy +8

They don’t always claim to be famous in a former life. Look up Bridey Murphy for an example.

My mother and Harry Potter were both born on July 31.

  20. Sophia McDougall +7

Isn’t she making a better case for her daughter being reincarnated Laura Ingalls Wilder?

  21. Jade +4

I don’t get it. If she believes she is Laura, let her? What harm does it do? You can either whether believe her or not, but all of this bashing kinda rubs me the wrong way. Just asking ’cause I believe in reincarnation too. :/

  22. estellefirefly +6

I think my mother (and some of my grandmother’s friends) is about 80% convinced that I’m the reincarnation of her mother-in-law (my grandmother) who died three years before I was born. It’s mostly based on both of us being strong-willed and an entirely explainable strong family resemblance. She likes to make these weird comments like “I don’t believe in reincarnation but …”.

  23. Lana +5

I some how once came across this woman who trolled history message boards with tales of how she was the REAL TRUE reincarnation of some famous gunslinger’s wife, maybe Jesse James? She made all the historian very unhappy. I googled her username, and apparently she antagonized a lot of people on, like, reincarnation message boards, too, because she used them to tell her own special snowflake reincarnation story, which was so much better and realer and more cosmic twin flame than any of theirs. Also, her husband was NOT the reincarnation of the famous gunslinger, but he was ok with it. It seemed like some kind of reincarnation cuckolding fantasy thing?

If anyone can find this, I’ll be so so so happy.

  24. heavenstobetsie +5

Are half birthdays a thing? Have I been missing out on extra present receiving opportunities all these years?
