Toast Points: The Week of Nov. 8th, 2013

$(KGrHqZHJEsFJmT11V,zBSb+)MN1Eg~~60_35On Monday, we took down male novelists and men who talk about physics at parties.

Tuesday, it was all about sentient, clothes-wearing foxes and establishing our new Toast Stances.

On Wednesday, important questions about Redwall were answered.

Thursday, our new beauty correspondent, Adwoa, told us how to get prettier. Mallory knocked out a baller post on Wet Hot American Summer, and I told you to stand up straight, damnit. Oh, man, Thursday was pretty great! We had Texts From Lord Byron, too!

uuuuuuugghhhh my life

And today is Friday. Celebrate with some Firefly Femslash and by complaining about your period.

    Hello fellow Toast-ers.

Particularly in light of the excellent Firefly theme, are any other Whedon-ites considering becoming former Whedon-ites in light of Joss’s latest misunderstanding of feminism (genderist? argh!) and the prompt adoption of this by sites I usually like because “oh my goodness, renaming feminism because of its problematic aspects is a totally revolutionary idea that this prominent white guy literally just came up with and I think that because I’ve never bothered to listen to a WoC ever” etc etc ad nauseam all the things I’m just so tired of repeatedly objecting to by this point.

    Nay?

I was never really into Whedon anyway, but I was singularly unimpressed with his speech. I get what he was going for, but it still ended up feeling like white dude tells women what to call themselves without bothering to check into history/movements/philosophies/etc (especially the part where he’s all excited he made up the word, and then realizes it was already a word, and then still tries to claim it as his idea).
