This one isn’t a strictly Fry-and-Laurie entry; it’s from the 1982 Cambridge Footlights Revue, but it has Emma Thompson and Stephen Fry trying to out-U one another, and that is a rare gift and a shining jewel.
“My darling, you’re looking pale.”
“I am pale.”
“Oh, my darling, don’t say that, don’t even think it.”
I could listen to them both mangle “fantastic” and “strong” for days, and shall.

this is how i feel right now
That whole revue is amazing. It’s also got “The Letter,” which is one of my most favorite things ever.
I adore that piece.
My partner showed me “The Letter” to introduce me to the work of Stephen Fry and it’s been true love ever since (both for me and my partner and for me and Stephen Fry).
“…either mad or both” gets me every time.
In my heart of hearts, I’m sure that when the two of them hang out, they still do this to entertain themselves.
…also, that’s not out-U-ing, really, proper U just sounds like mumbling after a while.
not OLD timey U, prolly, that was just declaiming things
I remember the Film episode of QI XL when Emma told the story of when she greeted Stephen topless at the top of her staircase, shimmying and yelling “YOU WANT A BIT OF THIS?”
They’re so awesome. I love it when awesome people are friends.
Have you seen Peter’s Friends, where their whole group basically plays failed versions of themselves, ten years after college? It is excellent and perfect and sad and funny.
Ohhh, Peter’s Friends is lovely and I am very fond of it. And it makes me cry.
They all wrote and performed the revue in their early-early-20s and now I feel horrible about every meager thing I’ve ever accomplished in my professional life. Thanks, Mallory.
I rahlly, rahlly love this one.
YOU’RE GOING TO MERRY ME YOU’RE NOT GOING TO MERRY DEDDY
Fentestically fentestic!
This was the first thing I ever watched on Youtube Freshman year in my college dorm. It is still my favorite thing on the internet (apologies to everyone here creating internet content, your things are my second favorite things on the internet).
Take my hend and walk with me to the window!

Okay, but up until he brought up her poetry? The Burgomaster and I pretty much have that conversation, like, once a week.
Also, I am never not amazed at how tall he is every time I see him walk through a doorway. Every. Time.
Alarmingly tall.
I quote this skit every time I am sick and it makes me a delight to be around, I’m sure.
Once in London I accidentally walked into Temple Gardens, and two fellows in their early twenties dressed in blazers and plaid trousers and very thin scarves walked past and one of them said “Eah whell, his uncle’s the Chancellor of the Exchequer, you kneaw” in exactly this voice.
It was the first posh person I ever saw.
No-one’s mentioning the fact that they’re playing Robert Browning and Elizabeth Barrett Browning, the Victorian poets?
