A Bit Of Fry And Laurie Friday: Mystery

I know “Kicking Ass” is the more popular of the two Season One performances, but “Mystery” just DOES it for me, you guys. Stephen’s pink suspenders! Whatever voice Hugh is doing! ESTUARY!

DEAD SINCE 1973. YOU’VE BEEN DEAD NOW QUITE A BIT – JUST LET ME SEE. FIFTEEN YEARS COME NEXT…JANUARY.

When I first watched it, I was enjoying the song until the third verse, when I couldn’t stop laughing. It’s the callousness of “as a human being, you are history”, after the gentle weirdness of the rest of the song.

No, no, this one is definitely the better one.

I can never, ever forget the way he sings the words. When I saw Hugh live in concert about 2 years ago, it was like a flashback to this song (well, partly, one of the songs he sang was)

This song is a bit of a ‘screen’ for whether I can be friends with someone or not. 😉

This son always brings a smile to my face:

Taken a violent dislike to me!
I’d be foolish to ignore the possibility
That if we had ever actually met, you would have hated me….

Always thinking about consent and the emotional independence of the objects of his affection, that’s our Hugh.

This is an amazingly bright spot in an otherwise awful day. I heart Hugh Laurie and his expressive eyebrows. <3

YES YES YES. I sing this 85% of times the word “mystery” is mentioned around me (100% of times for “estuary”).

I can’t agree, not compared to the Billy Joel voice he does in the America song, anyway!

I love this one! I feel like he starts out a little Billie Holiday (shades of David Sedaris singing ad jingles) but it quickly morphs into something else.

This is definitely in the top-three most quoted ABoFL sketches in my household. “Estuary” indeed!

I was super-excited to learn about estuaries in geology class just because of this song.

True fact: eons ago, when I saw the very first teaser for the new series “House MD,” I was convinced that it was either a joke, or that they’d found someone who looked EXACTLY like Hugh Laurie. I can credit my disbelief mostly to Jeeves and Wooster, but this song played a part.

I sing “Where Is the Lid” to myself every time I have to rummage through the Tupperware.

my fave for all time. I took a landscape architecture class and every time the prof said the word “estuary” I heard Hugh Laurie bleating out “ESS-T’REEEE!!”
