This goes to A LOT of different places, but I would like to direct your attention in particular to Stephen’s green carnation, which I think presages his role in Wilde by a good ten years.

OK, so like I have no problem with JK Rowling getting cutesy with the names of her spells, and I understand that he’s not the first character for whom this was the case (whaddup, Remus Lupin), but can we talk about how stupid it is to name a character ‘Xenophilius Lovegood’? I took a semester of Latin in high school, but that’s not why I know that the dude’s name is “Other-Lover Lovegood”. It’s a word that has appeared nowhere else before, and it’s just such an incredibly on-the-nose description of the character. It immediately took me out of the story and made me dislike the character, which I guess was for the better.
it’s just in contrast to the normal English word ‘xenophobia’ – he loves the idea of strange and foreign things

I love the way Stephen grows increasingly high pitched as he rants through this, but that ending is just so perfect. I love it so much.
