We watch this every Christmas and it never fails to make everything basically perfect.
I’m not going to pretend that TPB did not play a role in my decision to go to college on the east coast. I am now convinced it is a gripping docudrama. Also, one time my boyfriend’s younger brother bought a clarinet from Bubbles. This is a point of pride in the family.

I have, for whatever reason, been hesitant to watch Trailer Park Boys until this point. But a ringing endorsement from more than one Toast proprietor is enough to make me give it a shot.
I’m in the same boat – it seems like my brothers have been talking about this for years, but I’ve never watched. But if the Toast says yes, then I say yes!
It’s hilarious but very very cringey, be prepared to feel slightly ashamed for having witnessed it. The show’s sexual politics are surprisingly radical though! All the humour comes from everybody being completely incapable at … well… everything.
Come on Mallory! Hop on board the Swayze Train!
Is this a safe space for me to say that I didn’t totally get or enjoy the first 6 episodes of Trailer Park Boys?
It’s possible that I did not enjoy them because I watched them with a boy who had recently sexually rebuffed me, then happily received oral sex, then insisted upon watching like 2.5 hours of TPB before he returned the favour. I may be projecting.
That would be a VERY reasonable reaction.
I mean, I didn’t want to listen to The Wedding Present for a long while after a breakup because she liked them more than I already did when we met. But that’s normal.

Lahey is a brilliant comic goldmine. Just about any shot of him doing anything will make me laugh like a lunatic. So is just about every other character on the show, knowwhatizesayin’?

I’ve just watched the first two episodes. Feeling pretty neutral about it so far. Is this one of those shows where it’s best to just skip the first season or should I keep going with it?
I would say there’s no reason to stick with the first season if you’re meh on it, try some later episodes. There are story arcs over multiple episodes, but usually they can be summed up in 30 seconds, so you’re not losing much by skipping around.
It also just won’t be for all people. It definitely helps if you’ve spent some time in you life drinking in a trailer park. Not required, but helps.
I couldn’t watch it for years because (a) I lived with a girl at university whose goal was to live in that trailerpark and (b) I gave a tenant’s rights workshop in their community hall.
Now that I live out west, it’s hilarious and amazing.

From a Canadian fan…the most Canadian response. I’m sorry. But get this…..Trailer Park Boys was partially funded by and aired on the CBC, Canada’s public broadcaster. Now that’s a good use of my taxes! Same for Kids in the Hall, BTW.

I just discovered this show like a month ago too and was so shocked that practically no one I know watches/talks about it! Totally an underrated gem… and so far (I haven’t watched it all) v. suprisingly unproblematic for the type of show it is, which is cool.

There are so many Canadian levels to this show…. Jonathan Torrens is a co-star and sometimes-director of the show, and he was on Street Cents and Jonovision (Canadian teen talk show). Honestly he’s my favourite long-term character on the show. This most recent season has him making these Kanye like HUHs that crack me up so hard

Also Lucy DeCoutere (the actress that plays Lucy) was one of the first women to step forward and put her name to a face in the Jian Ghomeshi case. My heart was warmed by the hashtag #ibelieveLucy that came out afterwards, supported by her castmates.

This is the first thing I’ve ever seen on The Toast that I don’t like. I’m so sorry. My ex was OBSESSED with this show, and forced me to watch it a lot… It would just give me a headache. That could have just been from the second hand pot fumes though, to be fair. Anyway, it put me off for life.
I still get emails from Netflix whenever they upload new episodes which just gives me rage, especially as it reminds me he continued to use my account after he had broken up with me… until I was forced to peevishly ask him to stop…. which is post-break up rock bottom in my view.
