It is so nice to know I’m not the only one who found “The Giving Tree” an uncomfortable read.

At least, this is what I hope Liana was saying…

Thank you, thank you, for the suggestion. Mallory’s version is x1000 better than the original.

      Me too!
My 9 year-old self found that book at my Grandmother’s apartment one time, read the first 5 pages, then the last two, and was like “this is some bullshit!”
I still don’t understand how it made it into the cannon of children’s literature…

And not one of your usual bullshit apologies where you demand that I apologize for wanting an apology/sob that you are garbagetrash whose life has fallen apart because your terribleness ruins everything/inform me that you will be magnanimous enough to apologize despite my tone.

I gave up on that fantasy last year. Things on the other side are sadder, but freer.

It’s one of those things that will fill me with rage if I don’t try very hard not to think about it: the fact that I can’t even *look where I want to* when I’m walking down the street.

I have cultivated a look of murderous contempt that I only employ on just such occasions. If you stare at me on the sidewalk, prepare yourself.

I escape this by being *completely* oblivious towards my surroundings. Yes, I sometimes walk into people. But I’m not bothered by staring people because I don’t notice them.

Oh man, the sidelong, anxious glance and the apology one both punch me in the gut.

Last partner was the kind that would either not apologize or would do the sobbing “I’m so awful” misery party when they did, and it was so painful.
