I wish I could compartmentalize better! It’s my last day at my job (I leave in TWENTY MINUTES!) and now I’m freaked out about money/not having health insurance for the summer/moving/probiotics?/starting my internship/getting a tattoo. Not all of these issues are connected, but pull on any one thread, and the whole anxiety bezoar comes following after.

Ouch, the compartmentalization one. That hit a little too close to home. Especially when feelings of inadequacy of the size of the ‘me’ box come into play.

To try to inject some levity into my sudden crushed mood, I’m watching this again: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gjnLLw5BTmc

I’ve been thinking about the compartmentalizing one all afternoon, and it me. I’m the one with the tidy friend drawers and my mostly-former-but-I’m-afraid-to-really-call-it-by-its-name best friend of 20 years is the other. My drawers could’ve stood to be a little messier and she could’ve probably left out my own exciting (often sexual) adventures that comprised 70% of her annual Christmas letter she sent to a hundred people without my knowledge or permission.

It was…not great. I think the original intent was a sort of satire of those typical braggy Christmas letters where she made up all sorts of stuff and she wanted to include some winky inside jokes that only I’d get, but it drastically missed the mark and came across as a deeply uncomfortable combination of self-insert fanfic and dog-whistle slutshaming.
