Some Events In New York You May Want To Attend In The Future

Oh hey there, readers, who I assume at least have a passing familiarity with Dad Magazine. Did you know there’s a Dad Magazine book coming out? We’ve mentioned it before. I don’t know, maybe you’d like to preorder. Or maybe you’d like to buy Dad Magazine at one of our two launch parties in New York?

The first will be on April 26 at Astoria Bookshop (our lovely local bookshop), and moderated by the wonderful and witty Michelle Dean. Here’s the event info for that one!

The second will be THE VERY NEXT NIGHT, on April 27, at Housing Works Bookstore in SoHo. That’ll feature readings from the likes of Pilot Viruet, Anne Helen Petersen, Elon Green and Anil Dash. Here’s a Facebook event to RSVP to! Ooh and that one has a poster. They both will, as soon as Matt gets around to drawing the other one.

I would very much like to see you all at one or both! Or neither, I’m sure you have important plans that night and/or do not live anywhere near where these events are taking place, in which case I will just assume your best wishes.

Boston. You must come to Boston. Lotta dads in Boston. Hell, Boston is where they film “This Old House,” so we pretty much invented dads.

Is… is there a place I can go to discuss This Old House?

I once sent an angry email about one of the Ask This Old House “what is this” segments. (there was some weird homophobic terrible thing. Kevin, of course.)

If you find a place to talk about TOH or ATOH I will follow you there.

Did ATOH reply to your angry email?

yes, and they did so pretty graciously! (i can’t remember at the minute if it was directly to the ATOH people or the GBH people or… whoever. But they were nice and apologetic about it!)

Oh that’s a relief! I watch ATOH at least 3x a week and I would be so heartbroken if it were otherwise.

My home state is one of only three that ATOH has never been to. My parents are currently renovating their house. I keep begging my mother to submit something, ANYTHING to the ATOH website but they seem determined to do all the grunt work themselves and throw away any shot for the relative heights of fame they could achieve by being on public television.

            UGHGHGH.

If you convince them, I say go with something electricity based. They seem to send the newish youngish electrician out longer distances than the other guys!!!

Well it IS a place i have discussed my theory that every TOH scene should be a prelude to hardcore gay porn. Pretending the Boston dadguys are talking about sex the entire time is the only thing that makes the show watchable.

A/B/O AU where Kevin’s the only omega.

(a/b/o isn’t even my jam!!!! and yet!!!)

Is this a safe space in which to ask whether Dad Magazine cover dads are still being solicited? I recently came into possession of a photograph of my father that may break the Internet with its Dadfulness.

I guess the question I should have thought to include the first time around was “How/where do I submit my Dad photo, exactly?”

I am so happy/angry to learn about the existence of the Astoria Bookshop! I lived in Astoria 5+ years ago, and was semi-seriously making plans to open a bookstore! Because there was one bookstore in what seemed like all of Western Queens, and it had a weird selection and smelled funny. So I feel somewhat vindicated that someone is making a go of it, but also sad it wasn’t me.

Hey, I (probably) will be in SoHo on April 27! I’m up there for work trips every month, but it’s always a Wednesday night and this is the first time it’s lined up with an event I’ve heard of!

Best wishes! I am soooooo tempted to get this book for my own dad for his birthday because I am 75% sure he would then ask for my help in obtaining a subscription to the whole magazine. Because that article on security wallets, he would really like to know more about that.

My dad is so dadful that his 50th birthday was on Father’s Day.

    YES.

We gave him a grill. Because what else.
