What on earth possessed Levi’s to name a style of jeans Wedgie Fits.

What made them think that people would see the word Wedgie Fits and say “Oh yeah this sounds like something I want to put my ass in!”

I mean they look nice, I would like them a lot more if they were black and full-length and not deliberately torn, but they’re perfectly acceptable jeans, but Wedgie Fits.

    1. ksek +24

My proportionally large behind and off-kilter hips give me enough pants issues as is. Can’t imagine buying anything that suggests wedgies might be in the picture!

    2. foxinthe_snow +71

Real talk: I think my bum has gone up a size recently cos a lot of my trousers are now what I would term Wedgie Fits

      1. Scared_Vagina +20

I thought this but I realised its because of change in underwear tactics (started wearing thongs). Butts, who’d have em?

        1. Pantomime_Horse +48

          [Chorus]
          Butt problems, who’s got ’em?
          I’ve got ’em too
          Butt trouble, we’ve got double
          Don’t know what to do

    3. MunchletteBelle +37

I can’t understand what is supposed to be appealing about the style of those jeans? I think they look super unflattering on pretty much all of the models in all of the colors from all of the angles. Someone help me understand please?

      1. msbias +6

Hm, I don’t know if it’s explainable! Changes in fashions always emphasise a different bit of the body, so they always look unflattering til you’ve got your head round them because you’re looking for the wrong bit. I think these styles emphasise hips and waists, but in a really different way from how low-waisted styles do.

    4. Lily Rowan +7

Go find the piece from … i want to say Cosmo.com… with staff trying them on vs. their other pants. I really don’t think they are flattering! Or is my idea that a bubble butt is attractive out of style now??

      1. shartbreaker +48

I thought wedgies WERE the shoes! Like a smaller wedge shoe! a cute name! What the f.

        1. mkpatter +21

I DID TOO AND THEN I THOUGHT IT WAS WEDGE FIT AND THEN I READ IT AGAIN AND WENT WUT

        2. daisicles +13

Me too! And like maybe the jeans were cut to showcase the shoes? Which is kinda weird but not impossible, right?

      2. noYOUare

You made this comment four days ago and I cannot imagine why someone has not tracked them down yet. HUSTLE UP, Y’ALL.

    5. allanaaa +5

I must admit that in my recent hunt to find more of the perfect high-waist jean that fits my actual real thighs (RIP Denver Hayes Hanna high-waist skinnies) a name like WEDGIE would have been something I would just glom right on to.

    6. mosylu +14

Ummm . . . until I read the comments I genuinely thought that the item I was supposed to look at was her shoes. I was like, “Hmm, I’d wear those shoes, but I don’t understand the wedgie part, they don’t even look like wedges . . . ”

It’s been a long week ok.

    7. msbias +5

I’m not convinced she’s wearing the same jeans in all three pictures? I can’t make the waistline in the side-on picture match up with the one from the back.

      1. drashizu +2

Possibly the waist in all 3 pictures is pinned up on the side facing away from the camera, and they hiked the waistline up on that one shot to make her butt look less saggy, because the butt/crotch definitely looks slouchier in the other two shots.

  2. irreverantontheinternet +40

For less than the fancy dog bed you can buy your dog a cozy clam to climb inside! http://www.petsmart.com/dog/beds-blankets/snoozer

My parents were skeptical that HRH The Dalmatian would use it, but he loves snoozing inside and it is hilarious to watch him climb in and out. Bonus: I, a 5’8″ mostly-human woman can fit inside the large bed and can vouch that it is quite cozy, though the dog will not think you are clever.

It has been a shit week and I am trying very hard to not buy 8 sets of those bangles. Maybe just 5.

    1. bocadelperro +7

I took King Henry to petsmart this week for a de-shedding treatment, and was so tempted by this, but I’m pretty sure the cats would aggressively claim it as their own, and probably fight each other for it.

    2. Nimona +27

Aw, I thought it was going to look like an actual giant clam, Little Mermaid style.

      Still looks cozy though.

    3. tiny_bookbot +2

I can’t decide if my dog would love it or if it would be a well-intentioned but ultimately scorned effort. My dog DOES like to crawl under blankets, so this seems almost ideal, but she likes this best if there is a person sharing the blanket with her. (She is 9 lbs and thus easy to share with.)

On the other hand we’re moving to a place with real winter in a few months and this could be good for her.

  3. RudyRed +18

Is it just me, or is there something seriously weird with the Wedgie Jeans model’s proportions in the middle photo? It looks like her legs are about a third smaller than her torso/arms.

    1. ksek +7

Definitely some weird photoshopping or at the very least a lady with some very very long arms. (For comparrison, I just checked in the mirror, and when my hands are at my sides, the TIP of my thumb is right at crotch height)

      1. RudyRed +6

My money’s on photoshopping because her arms look normal-length in the two outside photos.

  4. leblancly +15

I would 100% buy all $158 worth of those jeans if they went all the way to the bottoms of my legs. Can anyone report on if they are just looking short here because this lady has long model legs? Other options for high-rise pants for a long torsoed lady?

    1. tomorroe +5

Madewell. They’re worth the regular price ($115-130) but on their website they always have some high rise jeans on sale. I wait till they have a 20% or 30% off sale items sale and stock up! Their 10 inch rise jeans are amaaaaaazing.

    2. ach_so +8

No, they are a little bit short on purpose. Maybe the Levi’s site shows the inseam? As for other high-rise suggestions, I highly recommend their commuter line! They’re great regardless of whether you bike commute– high rise, nice heavy fabric.

      1. leblancly +5

Oh my, they have them in black high rise for $88, this is a glorious day. (and I do indeed bike commute on occasion!)

  5. Drea +17

I bought a maternity tankini (are tankinis still a thing? It’s two pieces and covers my stomach, but has a halter top) from Loft. I am not pregnant, but it’s the first swimsuit I’ve found in a long time that has actual boob support, and it doesn’t bling to my belly in a way that makes me super self conscious.

Those Rachel Comey clogs are rad.

    1. Drea +14

Cling, not bling. Although now I’m thinking about flash tattoos around my belly button, a la the late 90s/early 2000s.

    2. dorianneemmerton +10

I have been tankini-ing for the past few years (I do also have a bikini for when I’m feeling fat & proud, which is usually just on vacation or on the clothing-optional beach) but this winter I bought a one-piece because it was just the most practical for swimming lessons with the 3 year old (who likes to expose me in public if given a chance.) It’s blue and white striped, very nautical, and I love it.

      1. bocadelperro +7

I just hate having to maneuver sweaters, etc. over them, so I avoid them in colder months.

  6. effableobject +15

I’ve given up on one-piece swimsuits, possibly for life. Bikinis all the way. Now I just need to figure out how many sizes of the same bikini top I need to get through the summer if I’m giving birth in July. My favorite (Freya’s Hello Sailor in blue) is currently too small on top, although the bottoms still fit great.

    1. nopemobile +6

One-piece swimsuits are for people with robot bodies who never pee, imo. Which I’m not quite sure what these people would even need a swimsuit for. Are their robot bodies waterproof?

      1. Miss B +6

In re: swimsuit peeing — just hitch the crotch over to the side and pee freely, regardless of how many pieces the suit. I only recently found out that this is something not everyone has always done, and I’m baffled, but also eager to spread the gospel of never having to remove clingy wet bathing suit bottoms just to pee.

    2. alder_tree +3

I became a bikini person after my first couple of times skinny-dipping. I want as little between me and the water as humanly possible while keeping me “decent.”

    3. noYOUare +1

LEARN FROM ME: I bought several sizes of bikini top when I was pregnant and due in August. Went on vacation at the end of June and took the largest one with me. At one point I was trying to get out of the beach chair, and the bikini top exploded off of my straining body like a rubber band shot in middle school study hall and landed several feet away. I couldn’t get the towel out from under me to cover up, and my hearing-impaired husband couldn’t hear my cries for help. The only person who saw what was happening was my elderly father, who was so dumbfounded he could only stand there, helpless, while his very pregnant daughter writhed topless on a beach chair like a turtle that can’t right itself.

    1. Unreadaethel +33

There’s some crazy shit going on with her shoulder/neck region, as well. The combination of the pattern and the photoshopping makes me feel like I’m going insane when I look at it.

(I also have a nasty sinus headache, so that’s probably affecting my feelings of confusion and dread)

    2. VioletandIrises +23

Does anyone else get freaked out by what I call hourglass legs, where like the model, the legs are skinny but also muscular enough that the bulging calf muscle combined with the dip near the knees and creates the illusion of these oddly full bottom legs?

Something about it makes me nervous, kind of like when you see bodybuilders’ veins bulging out…

      1. v_d_budenmayer +7

I never had that reaction until you described it and then I went back and looked again. So, thank you?

      2. brujaja +7

I don’t know, my legs kinda look like that… But I think my severe over pronation is probably the most obviously strange looking part of my legs.

      3. tinypaperme +9

My legs absolutely look like that. My gastrocnemii are gorgeous, if I may brag just a little.

  7. ellenkstuart +12

ASOS also has the Korres wild rose oil on sale, for anyone else who also loved it as a Sephora sample recently and has been hoarding the last drops because the full size is *50 bucks* for a tiny bottle of oil. Now it’s 25 bucks for a tiny bottle of oil, which is still laughable, but…you know.

Also this is what I’ll be wearing to the beach this summer, I love it and I can’t wait. Although it was 0 degrees when I woke up this morning, so summer seems like nothing more than a fever dream right now.

  9. itiresias +13

I bought a couple of J Crew bathing suits on sale recently, and I’m not a J Crew shopper, but they’re good quality and fit. One was a crop top: https://www.jcrew.com/womens_category/Swim2/Print… and one was high waisted: https://www.jcrew.com/womens_category/Swim2/Print… and I never wear either of those things but I really like em.

    1. kay_hay +3

Cute! And now you have me seriously considering the bikini bottoms with not quite perpendicular diagonal stripes

    2. CleverManka +5

I have a J Crew bathing suit that’s lasted for nearly ten years and is going strong. Looks fantastic and has never once crept up my butt.

  10. Hillabee +21

What IS it with paper napkins!? I’m also buying them whenever I see some on sale. And then I receive clever ones as gifts. And yet I haven’t used a paper napkin in a decade. I don’t get it. But I WILL be a winner when I die with ALLLLLLL the paper napkins.

  11. terb +129

I think some bored rich person should buy every toastie a kaftan cult dress and then we can go set up a super introverted book reading cult hermit collective in the woods somewhere and leave this terrible world behind

    1. Jacknclara +13

As a super-introverted book reader, I’m afraid I know how this will end.
Spoiler alert: we’ll bring the world with us.

    2. alicia +9

The Ace Hotel in Palm Springs has these kind of calftan-like things (they call them something Moroccan that I can’t remember offhand) in every room that are a heavy enough fabric to block the sun and stand a little away from your body, and loose enough to just kind of swing around you. I’m just saying, Toast meet up in Palm Springs could make this really easy.

  12. kalat1979 +9

I need to find some cute plus-sized rash guard shirts for this summer. I have moved into an apartment complex with a pool(!) and am planning on my pale ass being in that thing non-stop.

      1. kalat1979 +5

I actually ordered one from them last year and it was way too small. Same thing happened the year before with a tankini set, apparently I have trouble accepting the size Land’s End thinks I am.

    1. GreenGrasses +3

I’m a 14 up top and a 10/12 on the bottom, and I am loving my J Crew rash guard! They come in a lot of different colors and prints and seem to be really well made.

  13. v_d_budenmayer +49

Is there anyone else here who can’t wear bangles because their hands and wrists and I guess forearms are too small and who regrets it every day of their lives?

    1. dianaalark +23

Opposite problem – I got big ol’ hands so I can’t even get most bangles on. I got the bangle envy bad.

    2. knut_knut +11

🙁 the last time I wore them I left a trail of bangles behind me. In general I find bracelets to be a bust.

    3. bocadelperro +14

Vintage bangles are the way forward. Google “maiden bangles” if your bones are particularly birdlike.

    4. lollywillowes +14

Yes! And I have a solution for you. Go to the South Asian neighborhood of your nearest large city. Bangles come in sizes!

      1. lemonack +7

Seconding this suggestion. Glass bangles come in colors for every outfit! (Also very breakable, but that’s why they’re so cheap.)

    5. typewriterandgramophone +11

I can’t wear bangles or bracelets or wristwatches or cool Nantucket rope bracelets (well, cool when I was in my early teens) because I have weird super-sensitive wrists that hate having things around them and get rashes if you look at them too hard.

So, sympathy, is what i’m saying.

      1. alder_tree +3

Mine don’t rash but I still hate having something on my wrist. Once I got a cell phone I stopped wearing a watch forever.

    6. roisindubh211 +8

I combine teeeny tiny wrist bones with surprisingly large hands, so I struggle to put them on and then they rattle up and down along my forearm all day long.

  14. suzynjackson +7

After my costco halter-top swimsuit broke last year, I coughed up and got a cute LLBean tankini which actually fits my boobs, fits my bum, and is comfy. So I can sit on the edge of the pool and pray no one drowns without exposing the whole family to my cleavage.

    1. amandaelsewhere +7

LLBean and Land’s End are the only bathing suits I’ve ever found with underwire and support for DD boobs. Surprised not surprised that it’s so hard to find a good fit.

  15. shartbreaker +14

I thought I found mine and my boyfriend’s wedding rings but NOPE it was a bangle.

    1. lynx137 +1

stoutwoodworks on etsy has beautiful all-wood rings and I can vouch for their customer service

      1. shartbreaker +3

I did actually buy him a wood and turquoise and horn ring before for valentine’s day and then later that feburary he slipped in some ice and fell all the way down and it shattered… I will still look though, maybe there’s a wood/metal combo that will be stronger. Thanks 🙂

  16. Sonora Webster +91

I went to a shop called Patel Brothers for bangles for an Indian wedding recently, picked up a box of bangles, and went to check out. To my eyes, wearing 10 bracelets seemed pretty absurd, but I thought, I guess that’s what we do here! Then the ladies at the shop convinced me that the problem I was seeing was not too many bangles, but too few. They sold me 4 boxes of bangles. To be worn all at once. It’s amazing and ridiculous and quite possibly still too few bangles.

    1. brujaja +36

Marrying into a South Indian family, can confirm. I’m giving up control of what I’m wearing for the Indian wedding, suspect I’ll feel like a Chirstmas tree.

  17. aitch_ess +7

… did anyone else read that Martha Stewart piece (linked with the Korres serum) and just … what. This is exhausting. I am exhausted. Martha Stewart looks great but I just can’t imagine being that dedicated to serums and being happy enough to actually look great.

“and then your kid is a fucking pain in the ass in every possible way for like two hours.”

Or in my case, 24/7. Treating myself to a giant tumbler of tequila tonight my friends.

  19. SeasideBedside +10

See, I want to wear something like that caftan all summer (my dream is to buy, 10 really similar ones), but I was worried people would be getting a creepy cult vibe from me. This post seems to say that is exactly the effect. Now the question is, do I care. I’m leaning towards “no.”

  20. Sarita

Possibly the waist in all 3 pictures is pinned up on the side facing away from the camera, and they hiked the waistline up on that one shot to make her butt look less saggy, because the butt/crotch definitely looks slouchier in the other two shots.

I’m catching up on old Toast stuff and was reading this (May 29) and clicked on the Levi’s and guess what? They ARE on sale and wickedly so! I just bought a pair of the Wedgies in Coyote for $64.07! (They’re reduced to $88 plus an extra 30% off for Memorial Day). Go!
