It will be a day of Secrets Revealed, of Analysis, of Predictions. We will be talking with Virginia’s former editor, the woman responsible for bringing Flowers in the Attic to a sexually confused and deeply grateful public. You will love V.C. Andrews Day, this much I can promise. You can also be a part of it, should you care to share.

I still think fondly back to the summer where Flowers in the Attic got donated to the food bank I was working at (so I borrowed it and read it, finally, at age 20) and then all the sequels also got donated over the next two months (and the prequel!). What a time to be alive!
I’ve been meaning to buy this for my Kindle for… well just about as long as I’ve owned a Kindle. So I finally have a good reason to buy it and re-read it this weekend. Is there a way to do this so The Toast gets a kickback? Probably a very small one since the book is $5.99 but I thought I’d ask anyways.

When you get there, ignore Canticle and then just search for Flowers and buy it. You do not need to buy the book we link to for us to get credit. Please buy all your tampons for the year and have them shipped to you and the Sherlock DVDs and also some cunning scarves.

I AM EXCITE. My 8th-grade English teacher had a bunch of V.C. Andrews novels on her classroom bookshelf and would like actively recommend them to us. How did she not get reprimanded, we will never know.
I haven’t read Flowers, but for the last two years my friend and I have been working our way through Rain, which was only written by her ghostwriter but which is an amazing piece of…something. So many bizarre gestures and facial contortions! SO MANY DAYS OF RAIN.

I very distinctly remember reading Flowers (because how could I not?), but I couldn’t tell you how old I was, how I acquired it, what made me pick it up (did someone recommend it??), if my mom knew… this is all a mystery to me.

When my mother and grandmother were cleaning out the basement they said “Oh Gulfie might like these” about the Ruby books. I was nine or ten. I thought they were specifically using V.C. Andrews books and my love of reading to teach me about things I’d need to know about, like hardening manhoods.
Asked my mother about it a little while ago and she had no idea it was softcore porn. Delightful!
Yes! That is by far the best VC Andrews series.
I inherited the entire series from my older cousin (along with tons of Nancy Drew and Trixie Belden books). I read the whole thing at least four times during adolescence. While I was vaguely aware that VC Andrews was really well known, it somehow never occurred to me that lots of other young girls must have read it, too. So weird.
Anyway I’m SO EXCITED for Monday and am hoping it will help make up for all the therapy I surely should have had regarding my Deep Feelings for Julian.

I’ve read all of the sequels. Like, ALL of the sequels. Even the Grandmother’s prequel, set in her early years, whereupon she is referred to constantly as being a “handsome woman”.
