I jumped into that pool two years ago and haven’t looked back, so I may not be the best person to talk to about this. My fall buying spree may actually consist of tights this year just to complement said dresses inexpensively.

I became a wear-dresses-to-work kind of girl last winter because a) I live in Seattle. Rainboots, tights and dress, trench coat, leg warmers is the best possible bus-commuting combo. I take off rainboots & leg warmers when I get to work and tights dry a million times faster than pants. b)I’m 6’0 so not having to spend time and money on pants that both fit my ass and come down to my feet is priceless.

I was mooning over a pretty scarf yesterday and had to shake myself free from it with the thought that I have perhaps a hundred scarves sitting, unworn for years, in hatboxes and on hangers in my closet. And that’s not counting the ten or so in steady rotation hanging by the front door. So I vowed to unpack my older scarves and wear at least a dozen of them before considering buying any more.

Thanks! I can’t afford to go on a shopping spree, and I have a bunch of craft supplies leftover from my wedding (of two years ago.. -_-) so this is the best way to go for my budget and my ongoing battles against my clutter/hording tendencies.

Magical, ridiculous, potayto, potahto. I worked in a great boutique for yeeeears, so I acquired a truly embarrassing amount of clothing that’s slightly too fancy for everyday wear. One of the truly great indulgences I allowed myself: scarves ordered at wholesale.
Lately I’ve been setting myself a task: I have to use, alter, or donate at least four unused objects around the house every week. Though sometimes the “objects” are household goods, mostly it’s got me test-driving older clothing and deciding whether to re-incorporate it into my wardrobe or give it away. It’s working!

TWELVE DOLLARS, Y’ALL, and it is exactly what I hoped to find: simple, understated, professional, nice long sleeves, perfect with knee-high boots. I actually got cross this morning when the unseasonably warm weather prevented me from wearing my new dress with boots and a scarf.

if anyone is feeling just a liiiitle bit spendy, virginia johnson is having a nice sale. warm scarf/shawls with little burros painted on them! watercolor bananas! i had to stop myself from buying a scarf with sumo wrestlers all over it since i really don’t need a new scarf (sigh), but did pick up a couple of other things at 75% off.
