I cannot wrap my mind around the fact that she’s married to Andy Samberg.
Also their shared home is BANANAS. http://la.curbed.com/archives/2014/07/41_photos_i…
I cannot even deal with how much this has shaken up my worldview
Oh my GOD. Everyone click that link immediately. They have a cave which Charlie Chaplin has almost definitely had sex in.
Ohhhh my god that house is nuts. Although the description does kinda make it sound like they bought the house pretty recently so the decor may not be theirs? Or if you spend $6.5 mil on a house maybe you expect to get every goddamn sidetable included, so it will indeed be the environment in which they reside. It just feels wrong. Andy is so silly! He doesn’t worry about punched-tin wall sconces and backyard swimming caves!!
I really struggle with decor because on the one hand I want my place to be all sleek and minimalistic with white walls and unadorned wooden furniture with no-nonsense steel accents but on the other hand, I want that house, exactly like it is, with the archways and the sidetables and and the fussy mosaics and the giant potted plants.
YES ME TOO. The other thing about minimalism is…like…where do I put my stuff? Like my normal products that you just need in your house? I always think about that when reading decor blogs or magazines. I love your bathroom with just a tub and a plant, but where do you keep your toothbrush???
This totally gets the open spaces but hella cluttered thing. Like, I don’t feel alone anywhere, but I always feel free. I’m really angry I don’t live there
Yeah, these photos are most certainly from some sort of presale listing. So it may look different under their care.
ugh this is like my sims interior design goals not even real life i just
This is *exactly* the kind of house I’d picture Joanna Newsom living in. With the Chaplin legacy and Theosophist architect and all.
On the other hand it’s like the opposite of the house I’d expect Andy Samburg to be living in, which is like the essence of my confusion over their marriage
I mean I know it is unfair to judge them solely by their music/his performances, but he sang Dick in a Box
That SHOWER.
I get the feeling she’d be the WORST roommate.
WAIT WHAT NO. This seems like something I should have known.
I went to high school with her! We had biology together. Somewhere in a box I still have a project we did; she drew all the pictures.
I can testify that at 15 she was funny, goofy, and sweet. But she may have gotten real weird since then, idk.
I’ve read a lot of interviews with her over the years and I reckon she hasn’t changed much from when you knew her. Funny, goofy and sweet sounds about right.
Any stories about her at 15? I know she used to go to folk music camp, which is the most California/Joanna Newsom thing evah.
HA! That is classic Nevada City, California, right there.
Hrm, this is weird and random, but she could brush all her hair forward and then flip it back and it would fall into the most perfect 70s Farrah Fawcett-ish hairstyle and I was jealous because mine didn’t do that! I can’t think of much else that isn’t mundane teenage girl stuff. We didn’t hang out outside of school, she was a year behind me, so we just goofed around and gossiped in class.
The weirdest thing about Have One On Me is that at least some of the songs are probably about their relationship.
Yeah, but probably not the super-tortured ones…
This thread is making me miss Joanna Newsom music. When is she gonna release some new stuff? I like the way that no matter what the themes are, it’s always new and surprising and interesting.
NO. WHAT?
But, like . . . HOW?
I think their marriage is really sweet! He just constantly seems in awe of her which I think is appropriate.
Ok, after doing some research, I thoroughly approve. He does seem to be appropriately shocked and thrilled that she has deigned to marry him.
If this is what they’re like at home (in their lovely, lovely home), then they must have hilarious times together. https://youtu.be/aqp1-gajX0Q
“So mom, this is awkward, we probably should have just gone ahead and said it right off the bat, but we’re pretty sure we’re kind of dead. Yeah, it happened while we were away at school. Yes, mom, we know you cooked all this for us, we’re sorry. Yes, I’m sure it’s delicious, but really, we honestly can’t eat any of it on account of being dead. We’ll say hi to Jesus for you, okay? Love you.” – Three Little Babes
Real lyrics sung by Bill Callahan in Joanna Newsom songs:
“All my bones, they are gone, gone, gone / Now I’m a big gross bag of guts and I will die very soon” — Only Skin, 2006
That voice. OH GOD THAT VOICE. WASPS, EVERYWHERE.
I have no reason to doubt this.
Saw her perform Ys live twice. The fact that she remembered every one of the lyrics without any stuttering or stumbling WHILE PLAYING A MOTHERFUCKING HARP SEEMINGLY ALMOST TWICE THE SIZE OF HER is completely mind-boggling. I bow down to her.
One of my faves:
“I stumbled at the door with my boot,
and I knocked against the jam.
and I scrabbled at your chest, like a mute,
with my fists of ham.”
-Jackrabbits
When is she releasing new stuff?!!
I’m sorry if this is an appreciation thread, but I cannot stand her. I. CAN. NOT. STAND. HER. Sorry, that is all. I’m sure she’s real nice and all that, but I just get hives thinking about her.
Do you want to come sit over here in the corner with me, the (probably?) one person who has no idea who she is?
I’ll bring a pie!
Yes please! She’s a singer with a harp and shes just soooo precious and charming and wee and spritely and it brings out the nastiest part of me, and I think I would have been fine just saying, “eh not my taste” but my ex was IN LOVE with her, and would drag me to concerts and get upset I wasn’t enraptured and talk about how pretty and smart and perfect she was and how she was his ideal woman RIGHT in my FACE, while I thought, my god she is so pretentious and her voice is like what a headache sounds like and it’s another 20 years of listening to her sing about spiderwebs in dew sailing on caravels from spain, just call them ships, please….the end.
Co-signed. “Ys” was the only CD I ever returned because of hate (rather than defectiveness).
The voice is. . . very bad. I cannot believe people pay to hear that voice.
the METEORITE is the source of the light and the METEOR’S just what we we see.
man I love Joanna Newsom.
Also, you have the same name as a very Bad News Bear I know, but I am happy that you appear to be a solid enough dude to write for the toast and not a Bad News Bear that BadNewsed all over lots of people I know.
Every time I hear that line, I think of this for some reason:
Also, that is almost the only thing I remember about my visit to the Field Museum.
And yet, I still love her.
God bless this strange, earthbound angel tho. Ys has gotten me through some real shit.
“We are in love, my bird friend was dying but then she didn’t, and now Bill Callahan is here to tell you we’re also starving.”–Only Skin
I LOVE HER, “Bridges & Balloons” got me through Some Shit back in college. LOVE HER.
I love her music, but think she is sort of terrible. I love love love loved her before she talked shit about Lady Gaga in like 2010, and I was just heartbroken to find out she would talk shit about another female artist ON RECORD.
I still buy her records, but she has diminished for me for sure.
I dunno, I’ve read the interview in question http://www.theguardian.com/music/2010/may/09/joan…
I don’t think she said anything outrageous about Gaga, just that she doesn’t like the music and finds her phony. It was just an opinion IMO, and I rather love that she added to it later by email – a delightfully nerdy detail. I can see how it might seem shitty, but in context I don’t think it was unsisterly or anti-feminist. Just my opinion.
Once someone told me she looks like Popeye when she sings. I can’t unsee.
To be fair, “Three Little Babes” is actually an Appalachian folk song (which is… unsurprising?). But yes. And I mean, she basically writes American folksongs, anyway. Singing plaintively about random animals? WHY NOT. People being hanged? SURE.
Yessss. It’s Child Ballad 79 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Wife_of_Usher%27… (h/t Melinda Russell of ye old “Folk Music Revival” class for her professor-ing skills)
Also reading “Women Who Run With the Wolves” and realizing “Go Long” was the Blue Beard myth… huhhhhhh so good.
EXCUSE ME is your username a reference to the church in Rome, Santa Maria Sopra Minerva? I love that basilica.
