Everyone is on vacation this week or covering for their boss who is on vacation this week, so being chatty Cathys for a few days suits us just fine. Here’s some stuff you could read:
Bless this Regency gentleman and his good nature.
Well, maybe? Even if it’s true, it’s not like it proves he would have won in a fair fight, just that he lost in a rigged one. WORDPLAY.
The best parts of this are the boardroom dramz. Texting! Texting during presentations to signal the speaker has lost the faith of the Imperial Cabinet.
The aftermath of whistle-blowing: five stories.
A day which cannot come too soon for southpaws.

Autostraddle continues being our favourite.

Speaking of links, how many of these banner ads do we need to click on to help y’all make more money? Do we have to BUY things? Or is clicking enough?
(I’ve always wondered.)
I believe it’s against Google’s rules for site owners to outright tell you to click ads, but I think Nicole mentioned in another comment thread that the best thing is just use the site the way you use it. Click the ads you feel like clicking! Don’t feel the need to click adult diaper ads just to click them. Unless that’s what you find interesting, in which case, cool, great, wonderful. Make sure to check out affiliate links in book posts as well.
Thanks!
One thing I try to do get the ads to do things that I want so I can click on them – if I go to the Jimmy John’s website, for example, the ads on some of the sites I read are all for sandwiches for a while, so then when I want a sandwich I click through from there. That way I don’t feel scammy, but also people I like get money.
It’s so cool to know that there are people who think about their online advertising consumption as far as who they’re supporting and how! Toasties are the best. Obvs.
So oddly enough, in another Toast article today, I randomly decided to click on the Sport Check ad (just…because..) and then that reminded my I actually kinda need new sporty sandals for my weekend adventures and now I’m probably going to sport check after work…
The hillbillies who work in the back of our building brought their baby in (again) and it was scream-crying (again). Lord knows I understand children screaming blue murder for no reason, buuuuut it was hard to listen to. If I wasn’t battling a horrendous phlegmy cold I would have just gone back there and offered to cuddle it for a bit or something, but I don’t want to add illness to that child’s distress. I’m pretty sure they smoke in there too. UGH people are the woooorst.
Vacation has come and gone around these parts, which means I am currently sobbing- softly, hopelessly- over the Access database I promised I would have done by September. WHY WON’T YOU RECOGNIZE MY IF-THEN EXPRESSIONS YOU HORRIBLE COLLECTION OF ELECTRONS. WHYYYYY.
Also: love Scalzi and his fancy Regency dress. He’s one of the good ones.
I feel you. I am trying to implement a new payroll automation system and it’s murdering me. Not helping is my cheap wine and eurovision induced headache from dealing with yesterday’s system problems.

My boss went on vacation last week, and I’m on vacation next week, so now I’m in the incredibly slow limbo week. More importantly, I’m also taking off on Friday, so how is it still only Tuesday?
This week is NOT slow at my job, tragically.
However, is this a safe space where I can disclose that I’ve watched the Katy Perry documentary twice in the last week? Because I did, and she is a DELIGHT and I just want her to be happy and to stop dating stupid stupid fucking John Mayer.
Oh, that’s Bobby Riggs! I thought it was a poorly-lit David Duchnovy for a minute.
Rookie also has a video of Neko Case teaching us how to make borscht. It’s charming, of course.
