At first I was stricken by fear, and then I remembered it was Friday. (The weekend is naught so sweet without you, Toast)
Merripat+19
Me too! I feared it would be a picture of The Boy or something equally terrifying.

“Oh, this? I’ve got, like, six others, in better colors. Nbd.”
thewhelk+90
That horse looks so judgemental and suspicious.
uranianliterarysociety+44
“What even are you doing back there?”
Frumiosa+157
“Put on some pants, Alan. We talked about this.”
VioletandIrises+38
“I believe a saddle was also mentioned, mister.”

“Somebody get my agent on the phone, stat.”

The horse is also worrying about how tiny his head is.
catweazlol+98
I don’t accept him as my spiritual guide because I can’t stop thinking how uncomfortable horse hair must feel against one’s junk.
betsymore+13
My thoughts exactly.
locke742+9
the horse IS his junk. #symbolism
Zelenka+38
I was more concerned about the lack of padding between the squishy bits and the horse’s spine.
irishup+15
Here to tell you, horsehair near your junk = itchy, bad bad bad. Horse whithers near your junk >>>>>>>> horsehair.
This PSA brought to you by the unfortunate combination of 70s short-shorts and bareback riding on a hot day.
robindavisdesign+42
That poor dude in the background is so worried his horse is going to drown

Why would you do this, you are a monster.
ksek+32
You can lead a horse to water, but — holy shit! Anything really IS possible!
BRB following my wildest dreams.
swords-and-spindles+26
The man, or the horse? I’m absolutely willing to follow this splendid horse’s guidance (such brilliant colour! Such noble mien!), the dude, not so much.
mspetuniawiddershins+67
That horse is throwing some varsity-level side-eye.
VioletandIrises+20
Is the horse a little husky or is the guy just super skinny? This is important.
jenavira+67
I am like 80% sure that horse is actually a kelpie and this guy is going to be regretting his choices very shortly.
aurorabirdialis+14
Kelpies, such an adorable name for a SAVAGE NIGHTMARE STEED OF DEMONS
j_bird+15
Is there going to be an open thread later today or should I post my frivolous and rather NSFW question here?
megalesias+34
I feel as though the artist got confused about the difference between “polo” and “water polo” and just combined the two?
that does not explain the nakedness, however. hm.
walrathem+26
I love paintings where it’s clear the horse thinks they’re the most important part. (they’re usually right. See: Pretty much all paintings by Peter Paul Rubens with horses.)
irishup+11
Went to see the Remingtons at Clark Museum. All the horses done in beautiful detail. Each one different and unique. ALL the riders were the SAME handlebar-mustachioed dude. Remington had his priorities straight.
PonyAlong+9
HORSES! That’s all I got, sorry.
Machinist+9
I often wish I could find out more about the paintings/artists I’m looking at, especially for posts that are all about the art in question. Does anyone else wish they’d give us, like, artist-title-date for these things? Even as a title tip or something?
j_bird+6
Check the “via” link at the bottom of the posts.
Machinist+6
Yeah, but those can be a real mixed bag… to use a couple of recent examples, in the Perseus and Andromeda post, none of the images in the post seem to be on the linked Wikimedia page; and the Dogs in Art post is linked to a Wikimedia library of 930 images. Now I’m feeling ungrateful. I should probably eat something.
Mallory Ortberg+15
They’re all in the linked page, some of them are just in the sub-categories in the linked page. It’s a mixed bag for me, because labeling each one individually would be a pretty significant time-suck and since I always choose art in the public domain by long-dead artists, I feel like it’s a fair compromise. You can also always right-click on an image and do a reverse google search for an immediate/individual citation!
popelizbet+3
If you’re using an Android device, pressing down over the photo will bring up a menu with the option to Google the image also.
grumblyqueer+7
Reverse Google Image Search the picture of the painting, and one of the first few results will link to a Wikipedia page.
morganatic+5
That horse is giving that dude some major sideye.
Es_Petal+19
I will keep my clothes on while interacting with my ponies all weekend, if that is acceptable.
californianinkansas+3
Pictures of your ponies, please! *puppy dog eyes*
Es_Petal+15
Petal on the left (grey with pink spots), Dexter looking alarmed in the middle, and recently departed and much missed Copper on the right.
night_squirrel+6
This reminded me of a painting Thomas Mann allegedly bullied an artist into giving him for free aaaand I just racked up a lot of weird Google searches trying to remember the artist’s name.
terb+7
I’m just going to say, no pants on a wet horse, his penis is going to be pretty damn chafed
Pamela_L_Isley+4
He looks SOOO much like my other half! Off to find a horse, some red paint and a lake(?) to recreate this moment in real life.
Priskill+5
I think I saw this in a museum in Russia?? Probably what inspired Putin . . .
locke742+5
You know you’ve made it when an artist attempted to make a painting of your penis and it looks more like a giant red horse.
ember
MUST RUB FACE ON ALL THE VELVETY NOSES
locke742+3
I still can’t get over this painting, or the alternate universe I’ve imagined where “Bathing the Red Horse” is a popular euphemism.

Muzzles are the best for rubbing faces on. I like to call it 'wibbly nose'.
