Oh, man, if you want to improve the reputation of snowboarders, suggesting (even in jest) that you should be going 75+ miles an hour and crushing people who have stopped on the slope to wait for a friend to catch up is really not a good way to go about it.
EXTREEEEEME!

Wow, that’s… yeah, that’s why no snowboards for me. Well. That and the broken tailbones.
*puts on full-contact pressure armour, helmet, shell gloves, hops on bicycle, commutes to work with u-lock out*
Honestly, calling it a “Rip Saw” is not doing anyone any favors either.
Also, holy shit that article:
The impact knocked Donahue out of her gloves, skis, poles, hat, goggles, neck warmer and catapulted her about 25 feet down the hill. Jesus CHRIST.
The more I read of that article the angrier I get.
“I understand her family members probably want him in jail,” said Doda’s mother, Sharon, “but on Heather’s behalf, after reading about the kind of person she was, I don’t know that she would want that.”
That is…did the mother of the kid who killed this woman just presume to say what the victim would have wanted? Seriously?
I never met Heather, but I had a friend in her veterinary program who says she actually was the kind of person she came across as in the media: kind, funny, sweet. Such a horrible tragedy.
True statement!
Instead, Sharon Doda suggested community service involving sports safety or caring for animals.
“In my opinion, that would be better because it would be giving back to the community,” she said.
Uh, lady, I would think that as DECENT FUCKING HUMAN BEINGS you and your son both would want to do some caring for animals and sports safety advocacy. But hey, why come to that place out of your own impulse instead of because the court says so?
The lack of hyphens is also vexing, but to a lesser degree.
I mean, all you need is a little disclaimer at the bottom saying “always ski in control and be aware of your surroundings,” do these people not have a Nick Pavich?
When you guys figure out how to clone and distribute Nick Paviches, the world will be a better place. Until then, I think you may have the only one.
EXTREME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
“Grandma Eating”
I hereby punish all snowboarders who find 75+ MPH rip-saw-seeking behavior enticing (or perhaps just the people who came up with this ad to start with) to a full hour of detailed visions of their grandpa eating their grandma.
Anyone who reads this ad and thinks “Hell yeah, dude!” (or anything along those lines) is the perfect epitome of what is colloquially known as a “little shit.” Grandma-eating? Power tool? You’re not responsible enough to use a segway, much less a snowboard that can go 75 MPH. What a tremendously callous, irresponsible way to sell your wares.
It’s kind of amazing what we allow people to do in the name of sport, especially given the risk-sharing function of health insurance.
VALID point. If people I don’t know are going to scream about how they’re paying for me to have sex because birth control (an argument I still don’t understand, but that’s neither here nor there), I am going to start yelling about these kids on their ripsaws mowing over the elderly.
THANKS, OBAMA.
Also student athletics? I appreciate the benefits of it, but I recall that about half of student athlete injuries are from over-training. I’m glad to promise to pay a share of your chemo if you need it in exchange for the same promise back from you, but to pay a share of treating your kid’s tendon injury because coach said “play through the pain, we need a big win”?
Okay that’s probably pretty controversial.
ETA: Also, I mean, aside from the dollars, your kid is suffering pain and using crutches for what?

Adventure sports adds are (97% of the time) The Worst. Today, I saw a snowboard ad that featured a snowboard with naked boobs painted on it. That’s exactly what I want in this already macho, bro-ed out snowboarding culture. Men literally standing on naked ladies.
Pshh, it’s so obviously never summer being tongue-in-cheek.
