Things I Have Yelled At My Television, Which Cannot Hear Me, While Watching The Time In Between

sira

“SIRA DON’T GO BACK TO THE TYPEWRITER SHOP THAT MAN WAS TOO HANDSOME”

“SIRA DON’T TALK TO THAT MAN HE HAS BRISTLY EYEBROWS AND A DAMN BEAUTIFUL FACE, HE IS TOO HANDSOME TO KNOW WHAT KINDNESS IS”

“SIRA I AM A FEMINIST IN THIS TIME PERIOD BUT IT IS THE 1930S AND YOU NEED TO BE PRACTICAL, YOU SHOULD NEVER THROW AWAY A MAN WITH A GOVERNMENT JOB FOR A GUY WHO SELLS TYPEWRITERS AND HITS ON ENGAGED WOMEN”

“HOW DOES A TYPEWRITER SALESMAN AFFORD MOET & CHANDON, SIRA? ASK QUESTIONS, THIS DUDE IS NOT GOOD FOR YOU”

“NEVER TAKE A CHANCE ON LOVE AND NEVER SHOW YOUR MONEY TO ANYONE YOU’RE HAVING SEX WITH, SIRA”

“Wait, this is the 1930s and Morocco is like, I mean, I know it’s a reasonably tolerant place but it’s still a Muslim country, how is there a threesome between two men and a woman going on on the beach? Like, that shit wouldn’t fly in America now, this is clearly public space??? Is this, like, an alternative history where being gay was fine eighty years ago but we still got Hitler?”

“IF YOU TELL YOUR MAN THAT YOU’RE NOT FEELING WELL AND ASK TO LEAVE A DINNER PARTY EARLY AND HE SAYS ‘BUT I JUST ORDERED A BOTTLE OF CHAMPAGNE’ THEN *liz lemon voice* THAT IS A DEALBREAKER, SIRA”

“WHY ARE YOU IDIOTS JUST CARRYING AROUND HER ENTIRE INHERITANCE IN CASH?”

“you’re pregnant, YOU’RE PREGNANT, YOUR STOMACHACHE IS PREGNANCY”

“don’t trust hiiiiiiiiim, oh my God I’m only two episodes in and I don’t trust anyone and I’m full of opinions, HE SPEAKS GERMAN OF COURSE HE IS BAD FOR YOU”

“HEY, REMEMBER IGNACIO, HE WAS GREAT, REMEMBER HOW HE NEVER TOOK ALL YOUR MONEY AND CHEATED ON YOU AND TRIED TO EXPLAIN *VACUUM CLEANERS* TO YOU LIKE YOU’D NEVER HEARD OF THEM, YOU SHOULD CALL HIM”

“oh my God she’s not even a SPY yet”

“YEAH OBVIOUSLY RAMIRO LEFT YOU and OBVIOUSLY HE TOOK YOUR MONEY WITH HIM BECAUSE YOU ARE THE WORLD’S BIGGEST CHUMP BUT I HAVE FAITH THAT YOU ARE GONNA TURN IT AROUND”

“NOW THAT RAMIRO IS GONE IT IS TIME FOR YOU TO STRAP GUNS TO YOUR BODY AND BECOME A SPYYYYY”

“STOP CRYING AND START SPYING”

“NEVER TAKE A CHANCE ON LOVE AND NEVER SHOW YOUR MONEY TO ANYONE YOU’RE HAVING SEX WITH, SIRA”

Still true in our time period as well.

I don’t know what this is but based on the screenshot and yelling about men being too handsome I am downloading it immediately.

    re: that threesome:
Pretty sure that if the men are rich enough, that kind of behavior has always been okay–or at least excused–no matter where.

“Is this, like, an alternative history where being gay was fine eighty years ago but we still got Hitler?” describes a good chunk of fanfiction tbh

    STOP CRYING AND START SPYING

Sigh. Oh for the far off, halcyon days when I still wanted to do intelligence work. (I’d be a fucking awesome spy, tbh.)

I added this to my Netflix queue a few weeks back based on the description and the smirky smile on the main hottie, but reading this made me realize I need to watch it 100% immediately.

TBH, when the spying (finally) started happening I was all, “Oh yeah, I forgot that was basically the premise of this series.”

yeah it’s way more EMOTIONAL GROWTH and EXCITED SEWING with a BIT OF SPYING BY THE END, which I quite liked!

The progression from Miss Fisher to this show mirrors my Netflix journey exactly. I can only conclude that we all received the same “Watch Next…” from the algorithm? Love it.

Netflix bases this recommendation on my having watched both Miss Fisher and Gran Hotel. Netflix has determined that I enjoy murder, sex, and fabulous clothing. Also Spaniards. Netflix, you understand me.

Be prepared to start being recommended all the spanish-language and otherwise foreign soap operas. I had no idea Netflix had so many. Also, after this and Miss Fisher, expect the category “strong female lead” to rise up a few more places in your recommendation lists.

as if “strong female lead” isn’t already tacked onto the beginning of every conceivable genre to pop up on my netflix recommendations

Yas! I am five episodes in now. But yes! Sira! Girl! How are you so naive that you don’t immediately know that men that beautiful cannot be trusted?! And is was promised spying! Wither spying?!

…and bump into a handsome man with dark, smoky eyes and more virility than you can shake a stick at, because if anyone’s going to be waving a stick around, it’s this guy.

It does not surprise me that Mallory is able to articulate my entire life philosophy better than I am.

(I read this book bc it was like .99 on Kindle and did not care much for it, although something may have been lost in translation. The TV version sounds 100x better.)

I promise you all making it beyond episode 2 is worth it. There is less crying and more badassery. It’s one of the best series ever. EVER.

I'm so sorry but the site this goes to is super sketchy! I think it tried to download something to my computer?

Not good! I didn't have a problem but I deleted my comment with the link just in case. It was insomniac nonsense anyway.
