Madame Clairevoyant: Horoscopes for May 2016

Aries: When your body feels too solid on the ground, when gravity’s pull feels too strong, think of the clear morning sky. Think of a long quiet river; think of the cold salty sea. Think of all the places your thoughts can carry you, when your days feel like too much. There are ways to make the world light again. There are ways to make the world bearable. There’s a magic inside you that will allow you to survive nearly anything, a magic that glows, and that might not make sense, and that won’t go away.

Taurus: It can feel overwhelming, sometimes, to think of the constant motion in your brain and your body, so full of effort and desire and dreams. Let yourself rest this month, when you need to. Even when you’re resting, blood will keep moving through your veins. Air will keep moving through your lungs. Give yourself some credit for all the living you do every day. The quiet trees on your street grow and reach for the sun, and so do you. Even in winter, the earth stays alive and so do you.

Gemini: Listen: you’re not often wrong about things, but let yourself be, once in awhile. You can be bold, and you can be loud, and you can be brave, and you can be wrong. You’re big enough to surprise your own self, and the world’s big enough to let you grow. Let this month feel like a window opening into sunlight. Let this month taste like a glass of sweet cold water. Let this month sound like the rain, like a song, like a bell. There’s so much joy waiting for you.

Cancer: This is a month for caring for other people, for listening to their songs and their sorrows, for letting your heart beat warm and true. Still, you don’t have to give up your own fully self, and you don’t have to give up your bright voice, and you don’t have to give up your own reasons for living. Look at your own hands. Feel your own face and your skin and your teeth. There is more than one way to live a good life. You belong to yourself and you don’t have to be afraid.

Leo: It’s not bad to give in to the softer parts of yourself sometimes, not bad to let your own tenderness out to breathe. There are things inside of you that defy logic. There are things inside of you that exist for no other reason than your own joy, for no other reason than to exist. This, too, is a purpose. You can watch the stars in the soft blue night, you can eat a strawberry, you can take a bath. You can call your best friend and laugh and laugh. You can listen to songs about love.

Virgo: Some kinds of freedom feel like highways and some feel like storms and some feel like a forest, quiet and green. Some feel like running away, some feel like an anchor to your own warm center. Try, this month, to remember what you really need, what makes you most alive. Living a life in this strange tangled world can be a heavy task, but you’re allowed to reach for goodness. You’re allowed to reach for joy. Your life belongs to you, and there’s so much that you can do.

Libra: This is a month to let yourself live a messy life. You don’t need to look for your life’s patterns right now. You don’t need to look for its smooth straight edges. There are things that belong to you and things that don’t. There are desires that make sense and desires that don’t. Some things will never be simple, and this is okay. You can tell the truth even when you don’t yet know what it means. You can turn your music up as loud as you want it.

Scorpio: This is a month for new feelings, for strange feelings, for the feeling of getting outside of yourself. You’re free to be weirder than you think you are, and you’re free to be better. You’re free to act in ways that don’t make sense, free to move in ways that make your muscles feel new. It is a blessing and it is a gift, to sometimes be wrong about your own self. Watch the sky go pink at night. Your heart is bigger than you think, and the world is even bigger than that.

Sagittarius: Look out the window when you’re dreaming and you’ll see cliffs rising out of the sea, or you’ll see clouds moving slowly above you, or you’ll see wide green plains, and wonder how you got here. And it’s okay to look back over your shoulder, here, but the path you came on keeps shifting, and you’re only one person and there’s only so much you can know. There’s knowledge and there’s love stored in your body, and there are forests and caves and canyons outside of you, and these are your gifts.

Capricorn: Think: there are so many different ways to look at the world, some of them sparkling, some of them strange, some of them quiet as dirt. And the vision of the world that you’ve created is strong and it’s good, but it’s not the only one. It takes courage, but there’s more than one way you can live. If you’re tired and need a break, there is another one. Of if your eyes go blurry, there’s another one. Or if the sun shines hot in your face, there’s another one. You aren’t stuck.

Aquarius: This month, listen to the songs that stick themselves in your head. Listen to your stomach when it growls. There are things that your own body can tell you that you won’t learn anywhere else, and sometimes these things will sting like salt, and sometimes they’ll haunt you through long afternoons, and sometimes they’ll feel like pure joy. Think of how strange it is to exist on this earth, all strong and solid. Think of how strange it is to be this good, this real, this whole.

Pisces: You don’t have to dress in armor, and you don’t have to tear your own heart out of your chest, and you don’t always need to know what you want. You don’t need to look into the future, though if you’re brave you can try. There are things that need solving, and things that just take a long time. There are dreams in your head, and there is a roof over you, and there is a sky over that. Even this loneliness can come to an end.

Taurus is very on point, but I cannot rest, I must finish grad school which literally embodies the entire month of May (and ends on the 30th)

You’re free to be weirder than you think you are, and you’re free to be better

I cannot decide whether to rub my hands together and cackle maniacally, or to feel crushed by the weight of such great expectations.

“It is a blessing and it is a gift, to sometimes be wrong about your own self.”

Scorpio is just full of things which are too real. These horoscopes are always too much.

You can be bold, and you can be loud, and you can be brave, and you can be wrong.

This is exactly what I didn’t know I needed to remember.

I don’t HAVE to, but if I don’t tear my heart out of my chest then who will?

As a Gemini with Scorpio rising, I really liked the way the predictions for my signs meshed together this month:

You can be bold, and you can be loud, and you can be brave, and you can be wrong. You’re big enough to surprise your own self, and the world’s big enough to let you grow. Let this month feel like a window opening into sunlight.

    and:

You’re free to be weirder than you think you are, and you’re free to be better. You’re free to act in ways that don’t make sense, free to move in ways that make your muscles feel new. It is a blessing and it is a gift, to sometimes be wrong about your own self. Watch the sky go pink at night. Your heart is bigger than you think, and the world is even bigger than that.

I’m going to print those paragraphs out and hang them up over my desk.

I’m printing out my Aries horoscope for desk-hanging right fucking now

I am admittedly not a huge horoscope fan, but these feel like tiny meditations on hope and change and I love them and need them.

I’m a Scorpio with a newborn Taurus, and both of our horoscopes are perfect for this first month of getting to know each other.

    1. Xolandra +3

Good luck with that astrological combo! It can work out tho – my h.s. bestie was a Taurus. (and congratulations, parent!)

      1. bighairnoheart +3

I’m a Scorpio and my school bff was a Taurus too. I think it’s a great combo.

        1. Xolandra +2

Firends yes, parent-child… maybe? I feel like it depends on how much stubborn both get/have.

          1. bighairnoheart +2

Stubborn just makes everything more interesting. (Says the woman from a family whose defining feature is hardheadedness.)

          2. Strophoria +2

Taurus and Scorp are sister signs! They tend to get along great, in my experience as a cranky ass Scorpio. Granted my mom is a Taurus and we have a strained relationship but I’d chalk that up to her untreated mental health issues over astrology.

    2. typewriterandgramophone +5

My mom’s a Taurus and I’m a Scorpio, and it is a GREAT combination. Congratulations on your small human!

These are so fucking good, thank you.

i look forward to reading these every month, so this is pretty much the best/most needed birthday present i have ever received!

I’m a Libra Scorpio cusper dealing with major life transitions and these horoscopes are spot on.

So I see you’ve been spying on my life these last two weeks…..thank you for the advice.

REALLY SUPER READY for my body to tell me something that feels like pure joy. I mean, I am SO ready. Ready. Ready steady. Yep. Bring it. Please. PLEASE.

I am slow and weary today, and angry at myself for being slow and weary and- and, well, weak somehow. This is just what I needed. Thank you.

” If you’re tired and need a break, there is another one. Of if your eyes go blurry, there’s another one. Or if the sun shines hot in your face, there’s another one. You aren’t stuck.”

I probably need to hear this almost as much as I resist hearing this.

  19. Siana720 +6

Any other cancers here? Because my horoscope telling me to take care of others while not losing myself is rough. I’ve been thinking a lot lately about how I am actually more selfish than I imagine myself to be, and how maybe I am ok with that, because how how how do you care for others without giving up your own reasons for living?

    1. MothsAndStars +3

Yeah … my response to our ‘scope this month was honestly something along the lines of “nooooooo, I don’t *want* to take care of other people this month!” I’ve been taking care of others at my own expense for my entire damn life and I’m just kind of done with that now.

That last sentence really got to me, though.

    2. builtahouse +1

yuuuppp Cancers been having a rough couple months. I take the last part to remind myself to center myself.

It’s not asking us to lose ourselves, only to re-center ourselves to care in a healthy way. I think.

No idea how much I needed to hear this until just now. Is crying at your desk acceptable if it’s during your lunch break?

    UGH MY HEART. <3

  22. bighairnoheart +17

No. My heart is not bigger than I think, because there is in fact no heart at all. So there. You don’t know me. Get away with all these feelings.

  23. rachaar +14

I needed this: Think of all the places your thoughts can carry you, when your days feel like too much. There are ways to make the world light again. There are ways to make the world bearable.

Surgery on Thursday for breast cancer and then months of treatment ahead not to mention a lifetime of dealing with the major change this is for me. I needed this so badly. I love you so much, Madame Clairvoyant.

  24. HannahJM +2

“Aquarius: …listen to the songs that stick themselves in your head…” I laughed because I have at least one band concert every week until the middle of June and I am living and breathing music. I am not complaining, because I love every minute of it, but once in a while I wonder if I should maybe do something different. Then I get confused with myself because I have absolutely no idea what that ‘something different’ would be. I’m dreading next year…

  25. iiiiimnotsorryy +10

“Look at your own hands. Feel your own face and your skin and your teeth.”

Sent this to a friend who immediately zeroed in on that sentence and was like, “So the Toast is saying I should plan on tripping balls for the rest of May.” Which, I mean, not the worst way to spend a month.

  26. shrieking_luck +6

    “You aren’t stuck.”

This Capricorn who is in the midst of a job search really appreciates this.

  27. ashurredly +2

I think my Libra-self is generally going to lead a messy life, but I really like the affirmation of that. Thanks.

(Also thanks for moving these to early in the month, it’s much appreciated!)
