I’m not much for playing board games, but with that group I’d give it a go.

I may just send a copy of the “Why is my head on fire?” comic to all the people who I have made plans with recently…

The first one, oh my gosh. That’s why I’m no good to vacation with :'(

My friend felt that way, until we took a trip together. I’m that annoying person who doesn’t plan (or, as she put it, “plans not to have plans”), and she really, really likes to plan, so we found a compromise—I let her plan the days, and she let us wander around at night, or vice versa (depending on whether she was all about a certain bar/restaurant/jazz club/part of town, etc.). We were actually surprisingly good about the give/take aspects, and I hope both walked away saying either, “Oh, plans aren’t always just a load of stressy running around!” or, “Sometimes not having a plan is fun! We wouldn’t have found that weird second-hand bookstore if we’d try to schedule out the whole day.”

Sounds like you have the whole “managing personality types while vacationing” thing DOWN, which is like A+ judo-level shit.

My mother not only needed a plan, but once she had a plan, it could not change or she would be emotionally bereft. I eventually took to treating her a little like a toddler – being really VAGUE about plans until a day or two before, then SURPRISE! here’s the plan!

Well, let’s test this hypothesis. Can you not enjoy your coffee until you know what the day will hold? When you make the plan, is it completely unrealistic? Does it include everything you want to do, with no consideration for how much time or energy each item will take? Do you find yourself exhausted at the end of a “well planned” day, and not sure why?

We can vacation together – a well-organized trip is a happy trip! (according to me, but not anyone else in my family)

Ohhhhh, that first one. IT ME. My brain is just sort of running 8000 logistical subroutines about every plausible outcome of every tiny iota of information received at all times and it is EXHAUSTING.

Between the Everyone Loves Baristas post yesterday and that 3rd one, I feel very indicted.

The second evokes precisely the terror I feel when invited to "play" board games. Shudder. Who *are* these people?

Oh god I hate games SO MUCH. And everyone is like "but how can you hate gaaaames they're so fuuuuuun just try it." NO I WILL NOT. I will only attend if there is a guarantee that not a single person will ask me to play (and then if they do, will not pout and try to pressure me into playing). I have made my hatred of games abundantly clear, I have no intention of trying any games or changing my mind.

Amen friend. Things I have been known to say, "Gosh it's like being in a meeting but less is really happening and I"m not getting paid." Also, "Is it just me or are you more aware than ever that your life only gets a little shorter each second we play this game, as we slouch towards death with tiny little plastic avatars?"

Also I hate camping. There's a really large camping/board game overlap of people and they also all think that these two things are like…morally righteous. If you say you don't like these two things…there's a gasp like you said you don't like puppies or support humans having a good quality of life.
