    “I fell down a mountain”

Oh wow, I’ve known so many guys like that!

It is my secret fear I mistakenly say “I fell down a mountain!” in lieu of a milquetoast response more appropriate to whatever small-talk situation I’m in and people rightly judge me as a boor.

SO there’s a tumblr post I’ve seen multiple times (and re-queue every time I see it) that pertains to this!

When someone is telling a story and you want to share something that happened to you, try something to the following effect: “Oh man, that reminds me of something that happened to me! What did you do next?” Which gives them space to finish their story or say anything else they need, and then ask for your story, if they want to hear it.

The post I read was more clear, but hopefully that makes sense.

THANK YOU. That is a great life hack, it scratches my itch to identify and assert my common humanity to someone without being a one-upping dick about it!

I may not have known more, but I do have a quite amusing if lengthy story about this one guy….

“Yeah, okay, but was it Everest? ’cause *I’ve* fallen down *Everest*.” (One-upping friends are laaaaame.)

    Awesome as always, Liana!

This was my first thought, too!! (and/or: I thought of this an hour before the post went up, soo… *fiddles with hair*)

2 need tho is so real for me. I love being in crowded places all alone and do not want anyone to acknowledge that I am there.

Where will we be able to see the Little Ones when the Toast is closed?

I want people to notice that I’m there and looking fly as hell, but not say anything or look at me for too long.

#1 are my only true goals. I will consider myself a full, real adult when I have my own Netflix subscription.

That one-upper though. I feel RAGE any time someone does that. STORYTELLING IS NOT A COMPETITION MY BRO

“Obviously, what you need is somebody like me to tell you how to not fall down a hill! It’s very simple, really. Just avoid hills, by traveling only on flat, wide open spaces like grasslands or prairies.”

    Thus, plainsplaining was born.
