The rest of the Kids in the Hall Monday archives can be found here.
Oh God, oh God, Nicole let me do this week’s Kids in the Hall Monday and I have SEVERE performance anxiety. We haven’t done Ham of Truth or 30 Helens or These Are The Daves I Know or Hotel La Rut or any of the Buddy Cole monologues or even Mr. Stevenson (Mr. Stevenson!). I am hot and cold with indecision.
But decide I must; I choose the secretaries. It agonizes me to have to pit “Is He?” against “Decaf” but I will be merciless: I will not look back. Everything about this clip is perfect; it is the Citizen Kane of three-minute comedy sketches. From the rubber-banded braids in Scott Thompson’s wig to Dave Foley’s stacatto delivery to the violin strings to the perfectly frozen smile on Mark McKinney’s face as Tanya realizes she’s being sent out to get coffee for the secretaries and not with them, this sketch moves from strength to strength. Excelsior.

I can’t wait for Rod Torfulson’s Armada.
I really just want to hammer the “Like” key for this post.
This is indeed perfect, but now I shall be humming ‘all the Daves I know I know, all the Daves I know’ for the rest of the day.
The moment after Cathy screams “LISTEN BITCH, ARE YOU FOR REAL?!”, where the realisation steals over Scott’s face – that moment is so perfect I want to build a house on it and live there (long story short, excellent choice, Mallory!).
“Yes, Cathy, I am for real, and I plan on staying very real.”
Dave Foley’s in-charge Business Lady characters are my absolute favorite.
Always with the strange stirrings in my loins for how attractive Mark McKinnon is as a woman.
I had to give up coffee (give. up. coffee.) for medical reasons several months ago, and the emotional result was very much like this, but all of it inside my head.
I seem to have adjusted now. I can even write again, but it was tough going for a while there; I had the thing where you can’t come up with the words. The thing. You know. Where the words are… elsewhere. The thing!
#literally perfect things
Sometimes when I’m blue I watch all the Secretaries clips on a loop and feel so much better.
I just can’t get started this morning so this clip is perfect.
I laughed like twenty times. An inspired choice, truly.
Thanks largely to these clips and the show’s disappearance from Netflix Instant, I finally – after literally years of dithering – bought the complete set on DVD. They might get here today! All mine, all mine!
I dithered for a long time on the DVD set purchase too, but it is SO WORTH IT. Mine arrived on my actual birthday, and it was indeed the best birthday ever.
Aw, Mark McKinney’s little useless dangling arms when she’s asleep in the fridge.
Also, did anyone watch the season premiere of Justified?! Canadian gangsters! KitH alumnus Dave Foley!
INTO IT
I recently had to start taking a medicine that requires a completely empty stomach, so I have to take it first thing and then WAIT AT LEAST 30 MINUTES before eating or drinking anything, including coffee. When my doctor told me this, I almost did say “Bitch are you for real?” but I was actually drinking coffee when she told me, so I was calm. I’m used to waking up, rolling out of bed and drinking coffee before speaking to anyone.
It’s been a struggle.

Ughhh Dave Foley is so great in this. I felt her anger and frustration and redemption.
