Here’s the deal: We pay our writers and illustrators, because we think it’s The Right Thing to Do, but it is also expensive. As we are a fledgling site, if you’re bored and feeling particularly expansive, we’d love it if you decided to donate something to this endeavor.
Five bucks! Ten bucks! Pour in the cost of that morning latte that all the personal finance blogs tell you will keep you from ever owning a home. We would love some money. We will never ask you for money, apart from keeping this page up and running. We’re not a non-profit, nor do we pretend to be, so there is no tax advantage for you in giving us anything. We cannot stress this enough. There will be no pledge drives and no tote bags.
We are going to have ads, although we won’t run ads from just anyone (juice cleanses, that politician you hate, anything that auto-plays music when you load the site). If you see a sponsored post, it will be for something we feel good about recommending. If you see an ad, it will be for something we are not morally opposed to.
Paying for content is an experiment, as those of you who ask to be paid for your work have probably figured out. But we believe in it very strongly. We believe that if we pay for great content, people will think of us first for their great content, and readers will like that their authors are being compensated.
