Home: The Toast

I’m flying today — involuntarily being dragged through the sky while crying with a certain soft and quiet dignity — so please enjoy this video of lesbian subtext from Star Trek set to the tune of Abba’s “I Fell in Love With A Starship Trooper.”

Were you at Buzzfeed Live last night? Did you have a wonderful time? Did you live too far away to attend, and would you like to tell us how frustrated that made you while the rest of us make soothing clucking noises with our tongues? You are welcome here, friend.

I was there! Everyone was fabulous. I'm going to buy Saeed Jones's book soon--he has a fabulous reading voice. BuzzFeed really...leaned into its BuzzFeediness with that animal slideshow, but it was cute, and everyone seemed to be having fun.

#Blessed by the chance to hear your NPR voice in person, Mallory <3
So, I kind of couldn't believe that ABBA had done a song called "I Fell In Love with a Starship Trooper," and as it turns out, they didn't.

But Sarah Brightman did, which is even weirder. (Go watch the video; it's, um, intensely strange). I don't want to think about Christine getting her body ready for Close Encounter Three.

Also so jealous of events that I will never be able to attend, ever.

I'm at work and can't listen with the sound on, but I'm imagining it as a mash-up between "When I Kissed the Teacher" and "Super Trouper," and it's pretty great in my head right now.
That was, as promised, intensely strange. And it officially surpasses my previous favorite "strange laser lights/smoke machine/inexplicable '70s or '80s obsession with disco tropes" video, which used to be HOLY SHATNER.
That. Was. BIZARRE.

And I liked it.
Sarah Brightman and her band, Hot Gossip.
I was there and everyone is so beautiful and perfect. It was the most fun time, and then I went home and ate fried chicken at 2am.

Jaya why didn't I just come to your house
Seriously I was up eating fried chicken and mashed potatoes and watching Coming to America, it was pretty much the place to be.
Hi, Jaya! I met you last night and you were awesome. (I was in the glasses dress.)
THAT DRESS WAS GREAT!
You're the greatest, Mallory. That room was yours. Thanks for gracing us with your presence, and come back to see us sometime.
Mallory is surrounded by beautiful women (and a few men, I guess) which is as it should always be.

I am so sad and angry that all my favourite bloggers live in fucking America or some shit, I can't afford the plane tickets.
I was there and I had to assail Mallory with my identity because I have LONG GLORIOUS BRAIDS THAT NOT EVERYONE KNOWS ABOUT YET and because my online identity is me at 15: brave, sweaty, but totally less attractive than I am now. I was also the 700th person to swoop down on her. Mallory is a beast at greetings and salutations.

It was the most fun. Thank you for everyone who said hi to me and congratulated me on the 'Pin. Apologies to everyone who said hi to me and congratulated me on the 'Pin. I should sleep more.

NICOLE YOU WERE DEARLY MISSED

WHAAAAT YOU WERE HERE?! I am furious.
I refuse to believe you are "crying with a certain soft and quiet dignity" on the plane. I know for a fact you're laughing while taking possession of all the armrests within arms' reach, even the ones on the other side of any male who sits next to you.
Femslash in space: Jack/Miranda forever.
ahhh I used to live in NYC, but alas, as of a few weeks ago, no longer, and let me tell you, I was DEVASTATED that I was forced by circumstance to depart before this beautiful event. Moar pictures, so I can live vicariously PLEASE.
I was there too and it was AMAZING and Mallory's voice is mellifluous and perfect and Janet Mock made me CRY and then I bought her book and read half of it on the train ride back.

Also I ate tacos and drank the most delicious michelada of my life with a pink-haired fellow Toastie before the night was through, so basically it was the best night ever.
I was there! It was wonderful and SO ARE YOU, MALLORY. Everyone there seemed so awesome and smart and I want us all to be best friends forever.
Anybody else now have this song in their head?

Does the space cold make your nipples go pointy, Bowie?
Do you use your pointy nipples as telescopic antennae to transmit data back to
Earth?
Bet you do, you freaky old bastard you

I was there! The internet is filled with beautiful people.
I was at the Buzzfeed event! And between gazing longingly up at Mallory and then my boyfriend coming home drunk later in the evening and trying to lick my face, I'm pretty sure I've never been less heterosexual in my life. I am okay with this.
I admired Mallory from afar, as she is meant to be admired. She is a poison dart frog, beautiful and powerful and deadly - no woman can claim her. To approach is to risk exquisite death.

Then Janet Mock stuck her butt in my face.
I was there! I was the really short one with the yarn. It was so nice meeting you all and Mallory was amazing as always.
I got so many emails from event-goers this morning about what a genius Mallory is! And begging for copies of her book. I also have it on good authority that hundreds of undergarments spontaneously flew off when Mallory stepped onstage.

I LOVED everyone's readings (my husband wanted to know why we don't own Saeed Jones' book yet--will fix ASAP) and Janet Mock is clearly the long-lost, most attractive Jackson sibling. It was wonderful seeing/meeting everyone! To anyone who witnessed my sister and me interpretive-dancing to Beyonce's "Countdown" at the end of the evening: you're welcome.
I was there and it was all amazing and fantastic. Sorry I didn't stick around to meet you all -- I had to catch a train and get home and eat and go to bed at something approximating a reasonable hour.

Also that Starship Trooper video is glorious and I will never get tired of it.
Woooow, fan videos are so much better with disco instead of Evanescence songs.
Oh Mallory, I'm all torn up! I live in Queens and I STILL couldn't make it because I had to attend my stupid cousin's stupid wedding! (His THIRD marriage, incidentally. WHY EVEN BOTHER?) Seriously, if he cared about me at all he would've postponed in deference to your visit.
Oh boy just finished ST:TNG "The Price" and remembered I had to go back and watch this, haha!
