Hi Toasties, I hope you’ve all had a fun week. I can’t believe it’s August tomorrow — this summer is FLYING BY. My dad is having surgery next week and my husband is switching jobs and my preschooler is switching schools and we are soon to have houseguests for 5-7 days and then all the back-to-school busy-ness really kicks in, so I have been floundering a bit. I’m ready for the weekend! I’m ready to at least try and relax. What are your plans? Tomorrow we’re going to see my brother-in-law, who’s visiting before his big move to Alaska, and then I have a packed weekend that definitely involves binge-watching all of Silicon Valley season 2 and possibly also involves mojitos.
We had a good week together at The Toast! I really really loved this essay by Carla Stockton about encountering ageism as well as kindred spirits and a brand-new start in her M.F.A. program.
“I was more of an observer in the crafting of my Sit-Upon” and other Confessions of an Ambivalent Girl Scout (the comments on this post really made me want to round up all of you who had sub-optimal Scouting experiences and start our own Toast troop, because you all deserved better! I have a troop of Daisies bridging to Brownies anyway, so I am sure that I can handle this; at least you all can be counted on to reliably throw away your snack debris. I SHALL LEAD YOU, FRIENDS)
Facebook RSVP event options clearly have a ways to go.

“If Lupita Nyong’o were your girlfriend, you’d be able to pull off wearing a cape. You wouldn’t ever really do it, but you’d know that you could do it, and that’s what matters.”
What if we described white people food the way we describe “exotic” food?
Nicole Chung is the Managing Editor of The Toast.
Silicon Valley season 2 and mojitos sounds like the best choice for weekend activities if you ask me.
I have a packed weekend of a group of ladies going to see Magic Mike -> a lab part -> a birthday party -> two live shows of my favorite podcast (How Did This Get Made) -> driving up to LA to see my mom and god parents.
That sounds awesome! I still haven’t seen Magic Mike XXL which essentially means I have no contribution to make to The Toast.
