As I return to the land of my birth for a three-week sojourn, it occurs to me that I should have a delightful Toronto Toast meet-up for my cold, deceptively-placid country(wo)men. Who would attend such a thing, and where should we have it? I will be in Southern Ontario from the 18th of January to the 6th of February. I will demonstrate correct pushup form once more.

FunhomecoverI just read Alison Bechdel’s Fun Home, finally, and then I cried and went to bed and I would love to talk about it in this thread, because I think it is just breathtaking and amazing and now I have the companion volume about her mom en route to me. I also have The Essential Dykes to Watch Out For, and it lives in my guest room to edify visitors. My aunt always had Bechdel collections, so Mo is a huge part of my childhood. Alison Bechdel, is what I’m saying! FUCKING ALISON BECHDEL. Promise me you’ll read Fun Home.

Speaking of books, I have an open call out to commission a brilliant piece on Mervyn Peake’s Gormenghast trilogy that truly communicates how perfect and different and stunning it is. Email me. I also want a piece about the ridic and scary BBC adaptation.
