No, she doesn’t. She says exactly what you think. What does it look like in this picture? (You’ve seen it. We’ve all seen it.) She’s looking at Jayne’s nipple with resentment and concern. What does she reveal? “I was looking at her nipple.” There is no surprise here. You can click on the link if you want, but it’s not going to do you any good.

We did learn that Jayne had detachable breasts though! “suddenly I found one of her breasts on my plate” Amuse bouche indeed!
In a way it’s like Sophia is giving us all the side-eye with her answer. And that my friends, is the greatest gift of all. Never change Sophia, never change.
She’s also said as much about a hundred times before, because people ask her about this picture all the time. NEWS, HUFFPO-STYLE.
PS “Nipple Resentment” is gonna the name of my new band.
If things in this world actually made sense and men didn’t have nipples (what do they NEED them for?!?), nipple resentment would be the equivalent of penis envy, brought to us courtesy of Dr. Sigismonda di Gioia…
I have never met a woman who wanted a penis but I do know several men who say they would like to have boobs. Boobs are awesome. Just saying.
Well, they do have their perk…iness 😉
And penis envy is one the most half-cocked, as ’twere, ideas ever.
The fact that the concept of penis envy exists says waaaay more about men than it does about women.
Your “as ’twere” nearly made me choke on my breakfast from laughing so NICELY DONE 🙂
Hehe, glad it gave you a chuckle (and even gladder you didn’t choke;)). I’ve been known to use it on way more than a few occasions 🙂
I mean, it would be nice to be able to pee standing up, but…
(I actually had a dream once where my clitoris would turn into a penis when it was situationally appropriate and then return to normal clitoris size. That would actually be pretty great)
(what do they NEED them for?!?)
if you press the left one twice while turning the right one counterclockwise you can power him down to hibernate. to wake him up again just do that in reverse. Or don’t. I mean they consume barely any power in that mode so you can leave them as long as you want to pretty much.
I am going to try that.
We need for men to have nipples. They are evidence that, biologically, male is just a minor variant on female. All fetuses start out female (nipples, gonads, erectile tissue at crotch, and an unformed organ with the potential to become *either* a uterus or a prostate). Fetal development modifies those structures to become, for example, a clitoris or a penis. Toastfolk know this but we forget to use it to support feminism. And too many (sexist) people are clueless that biological gender is a truly minor physical variable.
That’s why we need nipples on men. Opportunity for this conversation.
I liked that she said she won’t sign copies of the picture because she feels it’s disrespectful to Mansfield. Ladies defending ladies, even if she once had to save her from a wardrobe malfunction with only the strength of her glare!
Most notable, I think, is the idea that people think a picture like this even requires any explanation.
God Jayne Mansfield had magnificent tits.
I asked a bosomy friend if I could put my face on her boobs last year, it was great, I get it now. Impressed by breasts, that’s me.
Yeah. As a very bosomy person, what I’ve come to realize is that there is a rite of passage that happens with my friends. There has to be the eventual conversation, usually at night after a couple of drinks of, “Um, by the way. Your breasts are really huge! Tell me about that. What size are they? What’s it like? Can I touch?” Although, the “can I touch” part is only about fifty percent of the time, and sometimes happens during the second or third “So! You have boobs.” conversation. If we never have this conversation, it means our friendship has not passed the level of favored acquaintance.
I have mixed feelings about the phenomenon as a whole, although the individual conversations are usually fine and sometimes fun.
I am also a big bosom friend and I agree we are not that close if you’ve never talked/touched/seen my boobs before. Also all my lady friends love to place their heads at some point on my chest. They say it’s so soft and comforting, I take it as a compliment.
Apparently I’ve been doing my friendships with bosomy women all wrong.
Yep. I had to institute a “motorboating: it’s for birthdays only” rule about my own boobs.
Welcome to the club. Having a bosomy friend and appreciating breasts is JAMES BOND IN A TOWEL!

(I am still waiting for my free karate lessons)
Nobody has ever been or will ever be sexier than Sophia Loren. Is that off-topic? Doesn’t matter. Just a FACT.
Usually when I see a very beautiful woman, I think, “wow, to be that beautiful!”–not in a down-on-myself way, but just because I wonder what it would feel like. But when I see Sophia Loren, I think, “No. That is TOO MUCH beauty. I couldn’t handle it.”
Yes. This. I am quite literally in AWE of her beauty. It is terrible and wondrous to behold.
It’s mind-blowing to think that Mariska Hargitay is Jayne Mansfield’s daughter, isn’t it? Also that Gaby Hoffman is Viva’s daughter. Who else?
My mother, continuing the side-eye tradition at random woman chatting up my father.
Your mom is absolutely killin’ it.
Your dad’s eyebrow=A+
Your mom=total babe
Got to admit his daughters would all be happier if we hadn’t inherited it…
We must be related. Sisters in unibrow.
Your mom’s bracelet game is on point. Phenomenal.
Everything about your mom is on point. Holy crap. The flower is slaying me.
Your mom is so pretty! I love her dress!
Your mom : fox
WHOA your mom’s got nothing to worry about! Fab!
Now THAT is wicked side-eye…and good gravy, your Mom is gorgeous (and fashionable!). Here’s to beautiful, side-eyeing, well coiffed ladies who can whiff out shenanigans like nobody’s business.
As I’ve said to my therapist many times, my career is going really well except for the part about having a steady job.
I HAVE really enjoyed the alternate-angle photos from the same moment, though.
That joke = Peak Mom.
It's pretty freakin' great, I think!
I get hung up on Maya Rudolph being Minnie Riperton's daughter.
Hehe, glad it gave you a chuckle (and even gladder you didn't choke;)). I've been known to use it on way more than a few occasions 🙂
I'm turning 25 soon and I'm basically having the same feelings, and I think it's totally normal or else there wouldn't be a name for a quarter-life crisis. I wonder if a lot of it is because we live in such a share-heavy culture where people usually just share the best bits of their lives: backpacking around the desert, getting promoted, making some art, etc. We curate so much of our online lives that others may see it as us being way more accomplished than they are. I know that that's part of the reason why every so often I need to step away from Facebook, Instagram and the like and focus on my own goals and successes instead of comparing myself to other people.
Can we talk about the fact that those ladies were 22 and 24 in that photo? Holy moley.
Aw, I love Jayne. She knew what she wanted and she went after it. She is the original Big Hair no heart and I love her for it.
