   Until the last section I worried you didn’t really understand the glory of Nicolas Cage, but now my fears are assuaged.

   I watched Moonstruck on Netflix this weekend. It is a romantic comedy in which Nicolas Cage is a violent psychotic and as a result Cher falls in love with him instantly. This seems like a major missing piece of your marathon.

      I don’t think Moonstruck was on Netflix when I wrote this, but I was really just trying to watch films that were barely even approaching watchable, as opposed to a stone cold classic.

         Good god, is Moonstruck considered a classic? I found it pretty close to unwatcheable, though Cher is a surprisingly good actress.

            Moonstruck doesn’t speak to you? Have you never had a rapidly-evolving sexual fling with an evidently psychotic youth whose alcohol abuse and mommy issues jump out at you in your first meeting, which is also your first date, for certain values of ‘date’?

            Sounds kind of nice, really, that this was merely another terrible movie featuring Nic Cage.

            Moonstruck is a documentary about my first marriage, which was…eventful, in inverse proportion to its success.

   Frozen Ground is actually pretty tolerable? It’s one of those depressing “based on a true story” films about how a man got away with raping, torturing, and murdering women for decades because they were all sex workers and thus no one cared, until one Savior Man decided to actually listen to one for once (but of course she is a Problem and Unreliable).
   IDK I get some satisfaction from seeing John Cusack get arrested/punched. I just have a thing about it.

      It really is! Was expecting muuuuuuuuch worse, but it is a perfectly fine Tru-Crime movie that I would watch again if I was stuck in a hotel room and this was on TV.

         Yes! It wasn’t GOOD, but it was a perfectly fine crime drama that I would watch again if bored and stranded without a book.

      I am very fond of The Frozen Ground just because I watch a lot of “based on a true story” movies and this one actually made an effort to be respectful to the victims, which is a rarity in the genre.

   I find Nicholas Cage to be entirely unwatchable and therefore admire you in confused awe for sitting through *5* movies!

   I thought for a moment that maybe the actual titles had been jokingly changed but then remembered that I’d heard of “Rage” but just NOW realized that I hadn’t, I was thinking of “Drive Angry”, so I still haven’t heard of any of these movies so I’m saying….these movies exist? Has he gone Full Redbox? I really had no idea.

   p.s. “Left Behind” got a big display on one of the Walmart display racks and the more I’ve seen that image the more I hear him asking “wait, where the fuck am I? Am I in this?”

   This is excellent. I love Nicolas Cage, I love bad movies, and I don’t think I’ve even heard of these! Time to update the ol’ Netflix queue!

    I am very fond of The Frozen Ground just because I watch a lot of "based on a true story" movies and this one actually made an effort to be respectful to the victims, which is a rarity in the genre.

    A friend and I have several-times-a-year Nic Cage Movie Nights where the movie is chosen by which of the Cage movies we haven’t seen yet is most discounted at the DVD shop that day. You and Netflix may have just blown our system out of the water.

    (we try to do them in thematic double features. Con Air + Top Gun remains the greatest night ever.)

    (We really need him to do a pirate movie so we can do a double with Hook, though.)

    I went to the Nic Cage Art Show in San Francisco last year…..

    It was stupendous. Here is an example:

    There was also a mannequin butt covered in tiny little nic cage faces!!

    Is anyone else slightly disturbed how close his face is to the classical features of Ralph Fiennes in this portrayal?

    …gonna need to go drink some Earl Grey & listen to NPR & think about this.
