To be honest, that Claire Huxtable look is the one my mom gives me sometimes even when I’ve only thought about dropping the f-bomb.

I need to send this to my mother, because we are very profanity-friendly in this household, but her mother won’t say anything worse than “shit” and grandma gets mad any time one of us says “fuck” on Facebook. I can’t imagine how she read my mom’s book.

      MOM’S REPLY:

“Droppin’ the F-bomb is one of my favorite ways of getting rid of my frustration. I get frustrated a great deal. I only object to your use of it when it is too loud and we are not within the confines of our home.”

So, basically, their reactions to the F-bomb are both captured in the first picture, with your mom as Jayne Mansfield and your grandmother as Sofia Loren?

Right now my grandmother is mad at my cousin’s wife because she posted “Merry Christmas, assholes” on her Facebook.

this is from that time seth macfarlane sexually harassed every female actress ever, and jlaw was really into it. everyone else’s reaction in this gif makes sense.

Will report back with the approximate look my mom gives me when she sees this later. I’m expecting laser beams.

I doubt anyone will read this, but my mom seems to have missed this post, which is it’s own realm of terror as I have no way of know when she’ll come across this and ambush me with a mom look. There’s no cure for an ambush mom look.

The level of skill required to deliver the Kristen Stewart blank expression is so impressive to me. Like, I feel like her soul has retreated inward to the size of a pea. That’s what she has to do to put up with this shit. You know, with the grace that it requires. I love it.

It’s this look of “oh, wow. Wow, you just said that. I’m going to take a minute and give you time to vanish into nothingness for your own good. It’s ok, I’ll wait.”

Reading from my first novel, “at home” to a room filled with older ladies who raised me and I realize there’s a “fuck” on the next page. I Can Not Say that in front of Mrs. W. and Mrs. H. and Mrs. K. Reading, reading while figuring out what to sub out. Mind racing on two tracks. Things one does not anticipate ….

What was it?! WHAT DID YOU SAY TO THEM

“–She stood at the window, hurling curses down at him as he fled into the street … um… ‘Flip you, melon farmer!’ “

I was singing along to a song while my mom was visiting (so, CD not radio) and I forgot that there was a lyric with “fuck” in it until I was singing it. Fumbling over the word would’ve been painfully obvious, so I just kept singing and neither of us have ever acknowledged to each other that it happened. It’s been more than twenty years.

There’s a story my mom likes to tell…

When I was a little girl, like 4-5 type of little, my mom proposed putting a quarter every time she swore while driving, to help her curb the habit. When there was enough money in the jar, she explained, we could go get ice creams.

Apparently, I shook my head, eyes wide, and just said “Oh no, Mama, don’t do that. That much ice cream would not be good for me.”

Which is to say that my mom heartily believes in a certain amount of justified swearing.

no, I’m pretty sure I was just a tiny smartass in training, because my parents were very big on teaching me to look for punchlines whenever possible and at that age I was all about sugar in every possible form.

I once drove from Florida to Ohio with my mother during the snowy season without using any swear words against my fellow drivers. I live in fear of swearing in front of my mother.

One time she said “bitchin” when I was a teenager and I almost fainted. Two weeks ago she said “hell” and I nearly dropped the phone. Our family is not a cursing family.

Ah, yes, this (or something like it) happened to me a year and a bit ago, only it also involved my mum getting upset because I had used the phrase "Jesus Christ on a crystal meth binge!" (can't take the credit for coming up with that one), my brother desperately trying to stop my mum looking through the whole of my Facebook to find out what else I had been swearing about, two of my aunts also getting upset and me having to hide in the bathroom during Christmas dinner so I would not ruin Christmas by yelling at one of said aunts.

    I was THIRTY.

In my house we call this incident SwearGate.

Now I am reliving the day I said ‘oh c*** the fuck off’ to my boyfriend’s mother.

She was outraged, probably justifiably, and I apologised a lot. But in my defence, we were playing a very intense game of canasta (is there any other kind?) and she had just picked up the deck I’d been trying to get for the last 20 minutes.

    I call it even.

To this day, my mom swears that the first word I ever said was ‘fuck’ (but pronounced more like ‘fohk’, because Dutch). She says I kept repeating it for a good five minutes while intensely staring into the eyes of our neighbour’s dog.
