“Miniseries About A Non-Tudor, Non-Windsor English Royal Family”
Does watching the entirety of Monarchy count?
Who am I kidding? I am guilty of watching all of these things.
Eh, the English Royal Family can take a hike. BRING ME CZARS. Specifically Peter the Great, obvs, but all them Romanovs can hang out in my living room all they want.
I have watched more than one documentary about Rasputin.
My obsession with the Romanovs (especially Aleksandr I) resulted in a European Studies/Russian major. Not sure I’d want any of them in my living room, though.

Why, yes, I did watch Borgia.
BBC Two’s The Normans was pretty good.

This is like, the entirety of Canadian Netflix.
There’s a CANADIAN Netflix???
It’s bullshit, there’s nothing on it.
It’s got Strange Brew, though, right? I mean, doesn’t it HAVE to?
It’s better now than when we first got it two years ago, but yeah, selection is waaaay more limited. There are NO STEP UP MOVIES, for example. Not one.
all the Canadians who know where it’s at have a fake American DNS to access your precious Netflix resources.
Yeah, even my dad figured it out.
I know, I mainly use it on my PS3 though.
Not even Trailer Park Boys?
Also The Decent 2, ugh.

#I really thought Liam Neeson was going to make it in The Grey
I really thought The Grey was going to be a hilarrible good time but it peaked in the first five minutes with the inclusion of a Lucian Blaque song.

Speaking of, has anyone seen Taken 2? I know it’s not GOOD, but is it good enough to watch if you want a thriller and you’re already wine drunk and eating pizza in your apartment?
A++++ night in please report back I’m interested in wolves
I have a lot of Feelings about death and meaningless and Jack-London-style things (like everyone, but IT FEELS UNIQUE OKAY) and I thought The Grey was going to be Taken, but with wolves, and I was a FUCKING MESS FOR DAYS after I saw that movie.
Seriously! I am not necessarily against meditations on Man Vs Nature, but I was completely expecting two hours of Liam Neeson punching wolves AND INSTEAD HE ONLY PUNCHED A WOLF ONCE.
(I am also interested in the answer to safvn’s question re Taken 2: Betook)
You haven’t seen The Wire either? Whew, I thought it was–literally–just me in the whole wide world at this point.
It’s me as well! I do actually have it, as well, I just haven’t watched it yet.
I had my sister’s boxed set for, like, two years? Either I finally gave it back unwatched, or it got buried that one time I dug through all the DVDs looking for the second disc to Pride & Prejudice because WHAT MONSTER I LIVE WITH would hide the second disc to Pride & Prejudice?
I literally just started watching The Wire this week. (Checked out the first season from the library) I might be speaking too soon, because I’m just 3 episodes in, but…. I’m not impressed.
Nope! You’re speaking too soon. Trust me. First season is rough to wrap your head around because there are so. many. characters. But stick with it.
Ok I’ll keep trying. It hasn’t been able to hold my attention and I don’t find the characters interesting… so please assure me they will become interesting!
They will, I swear! It took me twice as long to get through S1 than it did any of the others. I had to keep pausing and asking my bf which one was which, and I was so hesitant to watch every time especially because the eps are a full HOUR. But then it gets better and now I’ve watched it all multiple times. We rarely rewatch S1 though.
I LOVE The Wire, but up to episode 4 or 5 of S1 I was wondering why on earth people were raving about it so much and whether I’d ever be able to follow it. Then it just clicked and became The Best Show Ever Made(TM). Stick with it – it’s worth it.
I haven’t seen it either, just to annoy everyone I know who keeps insisting I watch it.
That’s how I feel about Breaking Bad. I do actually intend to watch The Wire at some point though, because Michael K. Williams and Idris Elba and Lance Reddick.
I have my parents’ HBOGO login (of course, because I’m in my 30s and it’s the 21st century) and instead of watching The Wire, I just use it to watch True Blood. Oh, the shame.
I dated a guy a year or two ago that was SUPER into The Wire, had all the seasons on DVD and convinced me it was worth watching… I got through almost 2 full seasons and hit a wall. This is not a show that allows you to do other things (craft/clean/play solitaire on your phone) while watching it – it requires 101% of your concentration at all times or you’re not going to understand any of it, and ain’t nobody got time for that!
I’ve seen most of Season 2 and the very first episode. I still haven’t gotten around to watching any of it.
…
I live in Baltimore City. It falls under the category of “you haven’t seen it but everyone has already told you about and plus, you’ve driven through or lived within a half mile of all of the settings, and you have a social circle who were all former city gov’t employees, and so.”

“TV Shows That Have Been Given Remarkably Similar Names To Already-Popular Existing TV Shows In The Hopes You’ll Confuse The Two Somehow”–I consistently crack up at “Scandal,” “Revenge,” “Deception,” and now “BETRAYAL”!!!!!!!!
Oh my gosh, I get so confused. I watched one episode of Deception, no episodes of Revenge, ALL OF THE EPISODES OF SCANDAL, and none of Betrayal. There’s also Mistresses on ABC, which I watched half of one time because it came on after The Bachelorette, but that was an error in judgment.
Scandal is so so so good. It’s the only one I’ve watched any of, and when I say ‘any’ I mean ‘all of it in less than a week’ oops
No, no, I don’t mean shows with similar names, I mean shows like BORGIA which is clearly designed to make you think it is THE BORGIAS starring Jeremy Irons BUT IT ISN’T.
1. OK, just learned that those are two different shows!
2. Misread that as “starring Jeremy Irons’ BUTT.” Which may or may not be true, because, Showtime.
“Non-Morgan Spurlock, Non-Werner Herzog Documentaries” look at this scrub forgetting about ken burns aka “ashokan farewell man”
I am SO GLAD my husband and I can have separate lists now. It was because of things that he was adding to the list and giving 4 or 5 stars, that I got such winning categories as:
Violent Southeast Asian Gangster Movies
Animated Series Featuring Superheros
Suspenseful Supernatural NBC Dramas
Now that his list is stored somewhere else, I’m back to Pre-1900 Period Dramas and Romantic Comedies Featuring a Strong Female Lead. AS GOD INTENDED.
“Movies That Don’t Seem Like They’re Going To Have A Bleak Ending Until They Suddenly End And You’re Left Feeling Tricked And Hollow And It’s Only Eleven, Too Early To Go To Bed But Too Late To Go Out And Salvage The Night” SUCH a problem. Always leave 20 minutes or so for what I call The Bob’s Burgers chaser.
I have also used Archer in that way! H. Jon Benjamin, make it safe for sleep.

I got rid of Netflix a few years ago and now I just have Amazon Prime, which does the same You May Also Like… thing but doesn’t create sometimes-amusing genre names for them like Netflix does. If it did, mine would probably be:

I think ‘TV Shows where Defiantly Crossed Arms Mean Business” is my favourite.
Randomly selected documentaries by non-famouses is my favorite category on Netflix. The Pruitt-Igo Myth got me for days.
For some reason a movie called “Pizza My Heart” showed up as my most recently watched after my family visited for the weekend, but no one will cop to watching it.
My least favorite is “You Accidentally Clicked On This And Had To Wait For It To Load And Play For Two Seconds Before You Could Click Back To Browse, Wanna Finish It?”
My obsession with the Romanovs (especially Aleksandr I) resulted in a European Studies/Russian major. Not sure I'd want any of them in my living room, though.
I share a netflix account with my boyfriend’s grandmother, and it makes me nervous.
“Romantic Foreign Dramas, including The Countess and Bathory.” Why yes, yes I do find movies about a woman who murdered 600 people romantic. Thanks Netflix.
You Watched Orange is the New Black, So Here’s a Bunch More Shows About Prison.
Netflix, you do not understand why I watched that, it wasn’t because prison, it was because lesbian Laura Prepon.
Orange is the new black is great, but nothing beats breaking bad!
Really happy, Netflix is finally released here in holland.
But…I do go to bed at eleven 🙁
