Toast Points: The Week of Nov. 1st, 2013

$(KGrHqN,!hsE3,H)57rtBN29q(qB(!~~_35On Monday, your choice of scented candle betrayed you, and Emily Chapman made us cry.

Tuesday belonged to Emma, whist monster, and bell “captain” hooks.

On Wednesday, we decided who qualifies as a Real Feminist, and some evil ladies made us question the value of sisterhood in the first place. Then Mallory bummed us all out with her damnable jack o’lantern.

Thursday, the Wornettes treated us to a stylish scary movie marathon, and we went trick or treating. We will never babysit again.

And today is Friday. Make sure you read that lovely piece about Muriel Rukeyser.

Is anyone else being redirected to ‘phony Java update’ malware sites from occasional random pages on The Toast? It happened to me on this page and a couple of others.

Yes, that happened to me and I mistakenly downloaded an evil toolbar. Took me all night to be rid of it.

We’re looking into this as we speak. For the record, we do not and have not had pop-ups or unders for some time now, so if you see any, they are not ours, and we want to hear about it (screenshots, please!) We’ve run several virus scans, the site is totally clean, we’re looking into whether a previous ad might have caused anyone problems after they clicked on it.

Thanks. All I know is that I was looking at the post with the comic about working at a theme park when the Java “update” popped up. Like a dummy, I clicked it (Java always needs updating so I thought nothing of it) and was hijacked with VAF toolbar. Not sure if that helps you any.

YES!! I keep getting a popup telling me how many $$ I can earn sitting at home. I only get this with IE. I now use Firefox with AdBlocker for all Toast viewings.

Wednesday night, my friend and I were texting each other misandrist scarf ideas. It went a little like this:
Me: “Red, like the blood of weak men.”
Her: “Yellow, like their cowardly and shivering bellies.”
Me: “Soft, like their uncallused hands.”
Her: Text message I did not read, because I was too excited, so first I hit reply and said,
Me: “Warm, like their entrails, spilled on the ground.”

Obviously, obviously, that last text was not from my friend. It was from the neighbor I’m catsitting for. She asked
    “How are the cats?”

That is a difficult text exchange to bounce back from. Didn’t help that my follow-up texts were also creepy.
“That text was not for you!”
“Cats are fine. Intestines in the correct place and everything!”

You know, I believe you, but I wouldn’t even care if you’d invented every word. It’s too beautiful.
