Math stopped being a thing for me when it stopped using numbers, but I can get on board with this.

The first one is kind of scary to me on some philosophical level if I understand it correctly!

An equivalent formulation would be “There is no thing that all people perceive identically”?

I think more like, for everything that exists, there exist two people whose perceptions of that thing are not the same.

Which is ultimately equivalent to your phrasing, but locates the conflict in the people rather than the thing, which somehow seems less alarming, though possibly still debatable.

It also means that for every thing x, there exist AT LEAST ONE pair of people, A and B, that have different preferences over thing x. So A and B could agree on everything except x, and every pair of people except A and B agree on x. So all hope is not lost. It also doesn’t say how much A and B care about x. Maybe A prefers x to y and B prefers y to x but neither really cares that much about either and they can still be best friends and anyhow that way A gives B those fried eggs that she doesn’t really like and in exchange B gives A the buttery toast that came on the side and everyone goes home happy.

I studied semantics in college, which was NOT THAT LONG AGO, but I had to spend way too much time on the glossary. Why did I pay so much money if I’m forgetting everythinggggg
