I loved Andrew as a kid. Loved.
I’m already on part II
So was this show like Supernatural in reverse?
TBAA had angels come to various people to help them through various situations — strained relations with a loved one was the most common, as I recall. The angels would start in the guise of everyday people. About 2/3 or so in they’d reveal their angelic status and reassure the human that God loves them and wants to help them. By the episode’s end everything was okay. And Andrew (the Angel of Death) didn’t always need to escort people to the other side.
Oh, and one family helped by the angels ended up getting their own spinoff for a while: Promised Land.
I was into both shows at the time.
And they were only sent to America, which is why it was weird that the main angel had an Irish accent.
A friend called this show “Torched By An Angel”. You’re welcome.
I wonder if these angels ever crossed paths with the Littlest Hobo.
The angel of death as a smarmy white guy with a stupid name. Nope.
HOLY SHIT the angel of death is JAMES FREAKING SPADER!! I *knew* it … i knew it …
Oh wow, major flashbacks to watching this on Saturday nights. But I always preferred Highway to Heaven. It meant more that the folks they helped usually didn’t know the one guy was an angel. Plus they’d have on all these Old Hollywood stars on as like a former actor who’d played some Lone Ranger type character who dons his old disguise to help the local community center. I did like Valerie Bertinelli as the glasses wearing angel. And that time Mandy Patinkin played the Devil! Oh brother, I’m going to be looking up clips on this on YouTube all evening I can tell.
oh my god, thank you for leading me to this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=emi4UpeY6LY
I had SUCH a crush on Andrew. I had a mini crisis when he cut his hair, but eventually learned to love the shorter hair, too.
I also watched Promised Land
Also, not James Spader, John Dye.
“Andew”
This raises all sorts of questions about heavenly bureaucracy. Is there an angel HR department? Do they have cubicles, and if so what is the acceptable level of angelic personalization? Can you tack up a photo of your poor dead Mesopotamian family , or does Jesus maintain a strict work is for working policy?
Man. I watched this show….religiously.
I’ll be here all night.
Probably on youtube watching clips of this show now.
Also, the episode where the main lady angel dons blackface to see how horrible it was to be black in rural America was my first stirring at like, 11 years old, of “Ummm, I don’t think that’s right.”
I am here to be the angel of ohmygodseriously and let everyone know that he died in 2011, of a sudden heart attack, at age 47. You are welcome.
I remember watching this and Lois and Clark because they were the only fantasy-ish shows that we got at the time. (Early nineties, three channels. Dickensian hardship.) Always liked it when the random hot demon girl showed up.
Touched By An Angel is the Cats of television.
(Cats was on Broadway for 18 years. 18 YEARS. There is nothing in the universe that confuses me so deeply in my soul as this fact).
I grew up listening to the music from Cats. When I finally saw the show, I enjoyed it, don’t get me wrong, but I was also so deeply confused in my soul because IT HAS NO PLOT
My mother watched this, Highlander: The Series, USA Network's La Femme Nikita, and that old Beauty and the Beast series with Linda Hamilton and Ron Perlman, which, damn, Ma, that's a LOT of campy SFF.
I’m watching this with the sound off at the information desk, but….has be been trained for this job? Is it his first day……..forever?

Okay…with sound he still seems pretty confused.
Okay…with sound he still seems pretty confused.
“Sometimes, a heart is already dead long before the man dies.” –Guy in the clip the writers submitted for an Emmy
“It’s over?” –Andrew
“Blah blah blah.” –Guy again
Cut to Abraham Lincoln, who looks at ANDREW.
The bit where one angel said he misses predestination made the whole video worth it.
As ridiculous as this is (and it is), I can’t hate on TBAA too much. When my father passed, my mother and I were away visiting family. My mother refused to believe that God would let my dad die alone like that, and the only thing that would calm her down was thinking that “someone like Andrew” had been there with him at the end. /cool story sis
How sad is it that I know the laugh line that preceded the Lincoln assassination well enough to recognize it out of context in this video?
