Stella Mondays: The Woods

I should probably lay off posting too many Stella videos, because if the Stella guys don’t do it for you, they aggressively and permanently don’t do it for you.

They do it for me, but my God, do I understand if they don’t do it for you. There are plenty of shows where I’d encourage you to persevere if it didn’t work for you at first – Bojack Horseman comes to mind as something that started off a bit grating and predictable at first – but if Stella isn’t working for you pretty much right off the bat, it never will, and you should go do something else.

(Only somewhat unrelated: has anyone else been watching ‘Another Period’? It seems tailor-made to meet every single one of my interests, but it’s not coming together for me yet.)

Pretty sure my new sexuality is “Paul Rudd in that outfit”

I’ve been watching and loving Another Period. I don’t know why, but it really hits my comedic sweet spot, especially everything involving Beatrice and Frederick’s relationship that literally no one seems that concerned about. I was totally sold after their “sex scene” in the first episode where it takes five minutes and ten people to take their clothes off. But I’ve heard from a lot of people that they can’t quite get into it, so it seems like it’s a very specific kind of humor?

David Wain is a blight on comedy, thank you for your time

Actually it’s mostly Showalter. But it’s also Wain

I’ve really been enjoying ‘Another Period’ as well. For my taste, it manages to balance the ridiculous/offensive/clever elements really well, but I would understand if someone else did not think the balance was quite achieved. I just love that they seem to have told everyone to do the weirdest posh accent they could think of and it seems to be working out really well so far. Michael Ian Black is a treasure.

I accidentally found myself trying to mimic Michael Ian Black’s accent whilst saying ridiculous things to my roommate. It is glorious.

I just like saying “Peepers” in his accent, but also in Garfield’s accent and also in Dodo’s accent.

I also laughed way more than I should have when they called him “Poopers” because part of my brain never left adolescence apparently.

I adore every single weird, stupid choice made in every single Stella piece. Synchronized falling out of chairs and posing seductively while crying just sing to me like nothing else.

FYI: Stella shorts are a god damn mess to find on Youtube, but Wain uploaded them all in decent-to-good quality on their own channel on Vimeo! Yay! Yaaayyyy!! yaaaaayyyyyy *bunny hops out of frame*

I feel roughly the same about Another Period – it is enjoyable and has all the right ingredients, there’s nothing WRONG with it, but for some reason it has not yet become a favorite.

It does it for me, except for the aggressive pixellation of the clip.

Any fellow Jinsy fans here Toastwise, speaking of weird and sometimes inexplicable filmed comedy?

I love Stella! I’m always so upset with no one will agree to get into an argument about Funk-Rock vs Funk Rock with me
