It was an excellent week at The Toast, wasn’t it? Just want to make sure you’re all really going to miss us.
First, obviously: Nicole and Mallory yelled about Captain America: Civil War.
We published a terrific article on cosmic acceleration by astrophysicist (and new Editor-in-Chief of The Offing) Dr. Chanda Prescod-Weinstein.

My friend Noah and I had a very Asian American inside-baseball chat about dating out, misogyny, and why we can’t have nice things. (It has since brought many new trolls into my life and none into Noah’s, but all shall be well; my shoulders are broad.)

I expect we’ll all have much more to say about The Toast before it closes, but for now I just want to stress how thankful I am for this space, and for all of you who make it the Last Homely House on the Internet. I’m going to miss it so much! But I’m glad we have several more weeks of fun together before the end, and it’s comforting to know the community is going to live on in some fashion even after we stop publishing. I feel so lucky to have spent almost two years here, enjoying your wit and wisdom and publishing your stories every day, and I’m sure good things are ahead — things we’ll be better able to meet and find joy in because we had The Toast for as long as we did. Thank you for making this place everything it is.

I can’t bring myself to read any of the articles from this week because I am afraid they will be the last ones. Will there be more monks??? I have opened a new Chrome window that is just filling up with all my Toast tabs and will save them forever and ever, or at least until I have a bad day and Really Need Them.

Related to the Asian American inside baseball chat, has anybody seen Ali Wong’s Netflix special? She touches on a few Asian American stereotypes and interracial dating, among other things. Much hilarity.

(Nikki, I think if you just published your grocery lists here I’d be happily reading along when either the final or penultimate item–paper towels? Grape Nuts?–would reduce me to weeping.)
Saw so much of myself in ‘Growing Up With ADHD’ and I don’t have a diagnosis. I am so, so far from even the first of many crushing steps to get there. But in the mean time, I really want to be gentle with myself to stop calling myself lazy and unable to ‘adult’. Also really heartened by the comments by POC (commenters of color? ruhruh) describing cultural differences on the road to mental wellness.
I had an emotional migraine dream last night and I just need Friday to be properly over so I can wine and burger with my friend for her birthday. <3 to you all.

The Toast really is the best place on the internet, and I’m hoping we can make its offshoots (crusts?) even half as good. I’ve learned so, so much here. And the closure means I’m finding rl Toasties everywhere, as we unite in our mourning.

Entertainment Weekly had a little blurb about the Toast closing in this week’s issue, wish they’d given it some attention before.
Nicole, I will miss hearing from you so much – everything you write always seems so compassionate and intelligent and compelling. You are one of my favourite parts of the Toast.
