Somehow, despite numerous rewatchings of “Burns’ Heir,” I never caught that an entire season before the Egg Council Egg’s on-screen debut in “Homer The Great,” Mr. Burns mutters to himself, “It’s no use. I guess I’ll have to leave all my money to the Egg Advisory Council. Eggs have gotten quite a bad rap lately, you know, Smithers.” What BONKERS, SPECIFIC foreshadowing that was!
i love how this is at once a super dated joke (eggs were really bad for a while there, weren’t they?) and a perfectly timeless joke (at least 75% because of the egg’s little squeaking shoes).
also now I wonder how Mr. Burns is gonna feel when he finds out his money’s been spent on tiny squeaking shoes for people in egg costumes. I can see him being charmed and delighted until he has one of his characteristic changes of heart.

Ordinarily I would assume that someone in the writers’ room found it hilarious that the egg council was spending so much money on dumb commercials and tried to sneak in as many jokes about it as possible. However, we are talking about Golden Age Simpsons writers here, so I’ll go with the foreshadowing theory. They were working on a higher plane than the rest of us.

Okay my FAVORITE entire season away callback is when Homer does his taxes at the last second and I between all the crazy deductions he takes he asks Margie “What where your gambling losses last year?” “seven hundred dollars!”
This episode takes place almost a full year AFTER $pringfield wherein Marge developed a gambling problem.
