Come and knock on our door
We’ve been waiting for you
Don’t waste another minute on your crying
We’re nowhere near the end
And love…won’t hurt anymore
Hear the roar
Thundercats are loose
Thunder, thunder, thunder
Who’s that girl?
Who’s that girl?
Who’s that girl?
They were four men,
Living all together,
but they were all alone
Making your way in the world today
Takes everything you’ve got;
Taking a break from all your worries
Sure would help a lot.
Wouldn’t you like to get away?
Sometimes you want to go–
Someday the mountain
Might get them
but the law never will.
Makin’ their way,
The only way they know how
That’s just a little bit more
Than the law will allow.

And then there’s M*A*S*H, which just forgets the cheerful https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-iwC7cL-jbk
When I wrote a college paper about the original M*A*S*H movie, I found out that the song was written by Robert Altman’s 14-year-old son. Making it even more random/bizarre!
I had a M*A*S*H phase in junior high, and at one point printed out the lyrics to the theme song. My mother found them and had a very concerned conversation with me about their content, until I explained exactly what she had.
A brave man once requested me
to answer questions that are key
“Is it to be or not to be?”
and I replied “oh why ask me?”
I thought that was pretty deep when I was twelve. But now I’m glad that the show just used the instrumental version of the theme, which is a lot more evocative. Oh, man, those first few notes — run run run to the TV to see if it’s a Charles episode (yay!!!) or a Frank episode. (I also had a M*A*S*H phase starting around that age. I…confess I’ve never fully grown out of it.)
My M*A*S*H phase is going on about 14 years now.
Aww, you picked one of the Ice King/Simon’s favorites!
What ever happend to predictability?
The milk man, the paper boy, evening T.V.
You miss your old familiar friends, but
waiting just around the bend.
Everywhere you look (everywhere)
There’s a heart (there’s a heart)
A hand to hold on to.
Everywhere you look (everywhere)
There’s a face of somebody who needs you.
When you’re lost out there and your all alone
A light is waiting to carry you home
Everywhere you look.

I mean… this totally sounds like a sitcom about ghosts. Super creepy.
Or what if it was a sitcom about Ghost??? I WOULD WATCH THE CRAP OUTTA THAT!
I think it’s important for us to acknowledge that the “Cheers” theme song has several more verses, one of which is just, like, the epitome of the 80s (and borderline transphobic):
Roll out of bed, Mr. Coffee’s dead;
The morning’s looking bright.
And your shrink ran off to Europe,
And didn’t even write.
And your husband wants to be a girl…
ahhhhhhhhhhhh
The Saved by the Bell theme song can also be read as slightly sinister, I’d say.
I plan on forgetting I ever read this.
I feel like the beginning of The New Girl’s lyrics are more sinister than what you posted
Hey girl
Whatcha doin’?
Hey girl
Where ya goin’?
Ahhh, I was just about to post this exact thing!
Seeing those lyrics without Zooey Deschanel chirping them is really alarming.
They sound like they were written by a creepy dude who likes to harass ladies on the street.
When you drop-kicked your jacket
As you came through the door,
No one glared.
But sometimes things get turned around
And no one’s spared.
:O
So open up your morning light,
And say a little prayer for I
You know that if we are to stay alive,
Then see the peace in every eye…
ALWAYS ACTUALLY CREEPED ME OUT
(doo doo doo doo dooooo)
It’s a pretty song, but the grammar just BUGS me every time.
Now I want to watch Thundercats. And go back to the thread in the Fox evolution post that talks about sexy cartoon characters because looking at Tygra…growl.
WAIT, I thought the lyrics were:
“Don’t waste another minute on your crying,
We know we’re near the end”
Not that it’s any less disturbing…
Nope! It’s “we’re nowhere near the end/the best is ready to begin.”
So, Gavin MacLeod from the Love Boat has a new inspirational/Christian book out. He claims if you really listen to the Love Boat theme, it’s all about Jesus.
LOL-ing forever at The Captain clearly representing as Noah
“Welcome back,
Your dreams were your ticket out”
She was there to sell makeup,
But the father saw more.
So no one told you life was gonna be this way
Your job’s a joke, you’re broke, and your love life’s DOA,
It’s like you’re always stuck in second gear
When it hasn’t been your day, your week, your month, or even your yeeeeeaaaarrrr
