Toast Points: The Week of Nov. 22nd, 2013

images-1All of my online advertising shows me vintage toast racks now, because I search every week to find a different one to put in this post.

All week, in our number two position, we’ve been trying to sell you JSTOR’s new JPASS.

On Monday, I trolled Anne of Green Gables with great love, and Mallory yet again decimated the dreams of men:

Did you know the muffin man,
The muffin man, the muffin man,
Did you know the muffin man,
Who lived in Drury Lane?
All his properties and possessions are yours now,
You are the muffin woman,
You live on Drury Lane.

Tuesday, Sherlynn Hicks dropped some wisdom all over us.

On Wednesday, we defended The Way We Talk Now, and murdered Channing Tatum in cold blood.

Thursday, Laura Passin said some beautiful, sad things. Mallory said some creepy things. I lightened the mood with baby books.

And today is Friday. More blog sausage, a Gal Scientist who fiddles with galaxies, and some solid advice.

Oh, good, a place where I can comment and say that I thought “JPASS: A Love Story” was hilarious, and I do not mind sponsored posts AT ALL if they are all going to be that funny.

I REALLY like doing them. Give me an idea, I can write about it all day. Mallory has eighty original ideas every minute. Also, I just really like JSTOR and was stoked to be asked.

JSTOR is amazing, and if I weren’t already affiliated with a university with full JSTOR access I would totally buy a JPASS. Also, really good marketing strategy on their part to partner with a site whose primary readership seems to be intelligent women.

Yep, if I didn’t have JSTOR access through work, I’d be lobbying for JPASS for Christmas. (Relatedly, for Early Modern folk who don’t otherwise have access, RSA is offering EEBO access with an annual membership! So servicey!)

Yeah, it’s actually some well-done advertising, on both sides. Targeted to the right people and done in a way that’s fun for us.

I had no idea it was sponsored until I got to the bottom and couldn’t comment on how funny it was! I assumed it was just playing off the obvious, universal love that post-grad people have for the massive online research libraries they used in school and can no longer access. I actually got really excited that it was a real product! So, optimal targeted advertising is what I’m saying.

There needs to be a Hasidic hardcore punk band named Mutant Menorahs. Also, I wish I could unthink “mutant minora”.
