We haven’t left the Kids in the Hall behind for good, never fear, but I’m ready to throw some of The State into our Monday mix.
“Call me old-fashioned, but I think fire is magic. And it scares me. A lot.”
The rest of the Old-Fashioned Guy shorts are here, by the way.
1. There are times when it seems to be that the 1980s are completely indistinguishable from the 1990s in aesthetic and scope. I’m sure I’m very wrong about it, but I don’t feel wrong.
2. This is not to say that this sketch wasn’t very funny (it was), but there is absolutely no reason I should not have my own television show right now.
3. God, I would give anything to be able to whistle like that.

I operate on the theory that since 1945, decades begin and end in the middle. 45-55 is a coherent era. The sixties didn’t really start until 65, and lasted till mid seventies. Disco era until mid eighties. Neon, hair/arena rock until mid nineties. 9/11 is too big a psychological hurdle for me to ignore still, but I’m betting in a hundred years, an intrepid cultural historian will ID the boy band era as 95-05 and see me through.
