    a) God, I’m so glad the bargain bin lives again.
    b) Jane, I really appreciate your consistent inclusion of plus-size bargains, because they are always on the level of the rest of the items and they make me feel more included. <3

I love the look/idea of the swan bottle opener, but can’t figure out how it actually works? Can you really get enough leverage with it to open a bottle? Anthropologie frequently makes me feel like a clumsy buffoon. #notYourTargetAnthroCustomer #idealTargetCustomerTho

    1. treereenee +24

maybe it’s just for twist offs? Which wouldn’t actually be that bad of an idea because I’m one of those people who apparently have weak hands when it comes to cheap beer.

      1. Strophoria +5

Some of those cheapie twist offs have absolutely vicious edges though. I have callouses and they sometimes still defeat me.

    2. elsajeni +22

It looks like the tail is the pry-off type of bottle opener, and then you can also slip it on top of twist-off caps and use the swan to get extra leverage instead of shredding your hand, a napkin, or (if you are a classy dame like me) the hem of your shirt trying to get them off.

Just here to say that even though I basically never buy anything from BB, it is one of my fave parts of the week.

  4. bocadelperro +35

I bought both of those makeup caddies earlier this week. They’re en route, and they’re going to go on my vanity.
I have a vintage lipstick holder that I love, and I bought the similar ones from Anthropologie a few years ago, but the quality was really poor.

    1. brujaja +18

they look so pretty! I don’t have enough counter space for their glory to be admired and used. I hope you enjoy them!

      1. bocadelperro +25

I hear you about counter space. Mr. Delperro got so sick of our tiny bathroom being overrun with makeup that he bought me a small vanity table, complete with mirror and light. It is so lovely to be able to sit and do my makeup/other beauty things. I can’t reccommend it highly enough.

    2. arachnidette +10

I bet they will look lovely! My collection of drugstore lipsticks would look so silly in a classy holder like that, but if you have any with the really nice packaging, like the YSLs, it would be the perfect way to display them.

      1. bocadelperro +37

I’m a big fan of besame lipsticks, which have gorgeous packaging. Also I kind of want the new Gwen Stefani for urban decay just for the packaging.

If, like me, you’re a packaging whore who wants to rock Cherries in the Snow all summer long, you can refill old lippies by freezing the new tubes, breaking off the color and popping it in the old tube. It will adhere as it thaws out. Works great, and I get tons of compliments on my Revlon lippies in pretty containers.

Bargain Bin is my all time favourite Friday morning treat, coffee excluded. The items are always fun and Jane’s descriptions are always spot on. So on that note, THOSE GOLD LOAFERS! I’m a moldy oldie and if I could justify the purchase, I’d wear those grocery shopping and be all “in your face, kid!”.

Also, that skirt: perfect for New Year’s Eve shenanigans.

    1. bocadelperro +14

Get them. You can totally pull them off. They’re not just for kids. My mom is nearly 70 and she rocks the HELL out of some brightly colored kicks.

      1. Xolandra +14

Seconded! The secret to pulling things off, in my experience, is to just forget that you are wearing them. ROCK THOSE LOAFERS.

        1. tinypaperme +14

This is how I once managed to rock a Chiquita banana sticker on my forehead: totally forgot I was wearing it.

      2. PonyAlong +6

Temptation, is that you? Dammit, I could use something sassy for Spring…hmmmmm. Edited to add: out of my size!

      3. collierLA +8

CONCUR. My mom had (courtesy of me) silver holo glitter Chuck Taylors that she loved to bits. You absolutely cannot be too old for fabulous sparkly shoes.

I have often programmed phones to greet me with “Hiya, cutie!” Neither sad nor lonely, not here!

    1. jennjennboben +29

My youngest child programed my phone to call me “Amazing Jenn.” It’s a surprisingly fun little boost to hear it.

    2. SmrtCookie +15

I framed a “Hello Gorgeous” greeting card and hung it next to my mirror. I love it and I’m not ashamed to admit it.

    3. squeakychrissie +30

I programmed my previous phone to “wake up” for voice prompts when I said, “Hello, Clarice”. Not the same, but it did make me smile!

  7. projectbeks +56

I really want to use those makeup compartment thingies for art supplies….they’d get paint and grime all over them, but how *decadent* would that make an art/craft space look??

    1. bocadelperro +8

I have a friend who keeps her paintbrushes and other supplies in these: http://www.target.com/p/sonia-kashuk-limited-edit…

  8. Xolandra +27

If I had a hundred dollars to spend on skirts right now, I would rock that silver/gold beauty on a daily basis. *drools*

  9. SmrtCookie +16

I legit gasped at those makeup racks. If anyone comes across something similar in a silver/nickel finish help a toastie out.

    1. bocadelperro +9

There are lots of similar pieces in silver finishes on Ebay and Etsy. This was a big thing in the 30s-70s.

  10. sausagedog +17

Oh man that skirt THAT SKIRT, $99 is still too much but I would wear that every day in the summer. I have a pleated floral maxi and it (a) kept my legs cool and happy and (b) got me so many compliments from cute ladies. Highly recommend the pleated maxi.

And speaking of sparkly sale nail polish, I got this because my boyfriend had a few extra bucks on a gift card, and it is… so disappointing. The effect is gorgeous but the polish sucks– the green needed a few coats for decent coverage, the gold glitter is so rigid that it stuck out in little points on my nails and caught on things, it chips off in huge chunks, and it smelled nail polish-y for like two whole days after applying. So sad 🙁

I’m not planning a wedding anytime soon but I’m imagining that skirt as a wedding separates piece and dyingggggg. With an ivory, lacy top? Yes. Please.

  11. Kallitropos +9

I like that pretty much everything is THE MOST SPARKLY. I had to scroll up to confirm that that was a special thing for this Bargain Bin in particular, because the Bargain Bins always have at least one or two sparkly items.

  12. beachlass +10

Wracking my brain and looking at my calendar for an occasion to wear that gold sequined dress.

    1. Goomaly +17

I used to have a bright red tulle maxi skirt (“used to” because it was really too small and I had to give it up) and I literally wore it to the grocery store, and everywhere, with a plain white t-shirt. It was so. beautiful. And it was just dense enough to need an extra kick when I was walking so I was just SWOOSHING everywhere. Highly recommended.

Although if you have an ounce of sewing skills I’m sure you can make one like this gold one for wayyyy cheaper.

    1. kallitropos

meeee toooo and then it didn’t fit at all so I had to return it. Got back most of the money, though.

  13. betsymurgatroyd +6

I bought the swan bottle opener, but after figuring in all the s&h it was just a couple bucks less than the original price. /sad trombone
I wanted the Gorgeous cup, but it was sold out.

I’m pretty excited about the bottle opener though. I like pretty and functional utensils.

  14. coloredlights +22

I barely even wear skirts and yet I want to live in that amazing shiny space-blanket of a skirt.

  15. robotneedslove +20

As a gold-loving person, this was great, and I bought that sequinned mini to wear to my bachelorette party and/or later on at my wedding reception.

Can we talk wedding dresses for a second? I’m having mine made, I’m totally in love with it, it’s drama drama drama, with a tight mermaid silhouette and a huge train and a low back and as a plus-sized lady I’m just so INTO IT. But I’m pretty sure that once I’m all done up with the dress and the veil and the massive bouquet my mom is obsessed with, I will be completely incapacitated. At least my shoes with be comfortable.

But like, 1) how am I supposed to do things like move around and dance and stuff and 2) how fucking weird is that?

    1. kalat1979 +5

I love the idea of wearing the gold mini dress to your reception! So fun on the dance floor.

I am no help otherwise, I can’t do fancy dress. The veil usually gets taken off after the ceremony, right?

    2. cleoreads +6

Change after the pictures and before the reception. A friend of mine did it – she wore her mother’s wedding dress for the ceremony and changed into something short and cute for dancing at the reception.

(I wore my wedding dress for the reception and danced by spinning in a circle so my full skirt flared out and it was SO MUCH FUN, but mine wasn’t mermaid style and I did spend a fair amount of time planning how to hook up my train so I could move during the reception).

    3. Unreadaethel +23

      1) Dance very little, just bob your head a lot. 2) Get your attendants to carry you around in a sedan chair.

    4. Valkyrumba +5

Am also getting married in a couple months. Bought a mermaid style dress, complete with extra floofy petticoat skirt for bonus volume underneath. Did not realize until WAY too late that there is no human way to get this dress back up over my hips to use the bathroom once it’s on. Dress only makes it on over my head. There are a jillion buttons up the back. Will have to get 100% undressed to the skivvies, via bridesmaid help, to pee at my own wedding. Still think it’s worth it, because when else do you get to wear something that awesome again? Your dress sounds amazing. Just dance, you’ll be great.

Could a dressmaker do something cunning to it? I remember going to the loo at my cousin’s wedding and being desperately called into a cubicle to help her with her wedding dress. I have no idea how long she was eating in there.

I don’t even wear makeup normally anymore and I still want those beautiful brass makeup and lipstick holders.
    They’d make great gifts too.

  17. logicbutton +5

I love and would love to own those makeup storage trays! Unfortunately(?), my personal makeup storage challenge is eyeshadow; all my lip stuff lives in my purse.

  18. JGlows +34

My grandma used to wear sneakers that she spray painted gold. I wore a pair of gold Toms to Thanksgiving dinner, and the first thing everyone, including my 89 year old grandpa, said was, “Grandma shoes!” So I passed along those gold loafers to the women in my family with a “Grandma shoes alert!”

    1. robotneedslove +10

I love your grandma. This makes me feel a bit verklempt for my own sparkle grandma.

I’m wearing gold sneakers to my wedding.

  19. ArmyOfSkanks +19

Silver/gold maxi skirt information of vital importance: I called the Free People store near me to see if they had it, and they didn’t, but they said if I ordered it through the store it would be free shipping, so I did. Turns out it’s also down to 50 bucks if you order it through a physical store! They still ship it to your own address and everything, also.

  20. Valkyrumba +7

um so I just went to asos and searched for “sequin dress” thinking they’d have one or two, and holy shit is it like the most glamorous explosion of shiny magic i’ve ever seen. where can i wear these?!?!

  21. snani +4

I thought these bargain bins were just harmless fun. I’m in Australia, I thought. I can’t impulse-buy anything, I thought. I make independent purchasing decisions, I thought.

Then I clicked back into this bargain bin and realised why I bought a pair of shiny gold loafers yesterday. No regrets! Tell me what to buy next, Jane!

  22. SeattlePixie

Ok, I love the gold skirt but not in my size unfortunately. I also thought the gold shoes were cute but apparently a lot of people did, because they are sold out.
