My French coworker informed us during the Olympics that in France, Cool Runnings is titled RASTA ROCKET.
We referred to the bobsled as RASTA ROCKET for the remainder of the Games.
I also discovered this during the Olympics, and I couldn’t stop laughing.
Wow, Rasta Rocket is so the superior title.
This is a fantastic post and it makes me miss Videogum.

Also, can we talk about how all movie titles in other languages are great? And sometimes turn super literal as a way to deal with the impossibility of translating idiom? I was in Spain when Liar, Liar (ugh, remember the late 90’s) came out, and it was called Mentiroso Compulsivo. So straightforward. And, like, just tells you what the movie is. Without having to watch it. Perfection.
I was in Italy when Sweet Home Alabama came out, and that title didn’t really have the same context in Italian, so they just called it FASHION VICTIM.
The same year I saw Goodfellas dubbed in French while living in Geneva, I also saw dubbed versions of Flatliners (L’experience interdite) and Arachnophobia (Arachnophobia). Thankfully, the rest of the U.S. movies I saw that year were just subtitled. That made for its own amusement at times.
Ah god! I was an exchange student in Paris when Dude Where’s My Car came out. The French title was “Eh Mec! Elle et ou ma caisse.” Which when translated back to English (badly – for effect), comes out as “Hey man she is where my cash register?”
Needless to say, none of us in the program EVER stopped saying that over and over again.
